How many of you think that a 350 watt "Brand Name" power supply is equal to or even surpasses the the performance of an "El cheapo" generic 400 watt?

I for one think so...
You might want to check out AnandTech's PSU roundup back in July or so of this year... The article is here. You want to make sure they have good rails esp... Antec and Enermax are good... but what was surprising to me was some other brands like "Fortron" and "Zalman" (though they were almost same) coming out on top. It's a very good article. Also, depending on how much you have in your PC or plan to have in your PC, even brandname 350W PSU may not be enough. I had to move up from Antec's TruePower 330W to 430W because there weren't enough +5V power to drive my HDD's and Radeon 9700.
Which would YOU buy?...
Well I am going to have to answer El-Cheapo 400w because that is what I have. Its a Turbolink, is that a good brand?
I already BOUGHT Antec TruePower 430W... cost me close to $100 'cause I had to get it retail at a store... I couldn't wait a week. If I had a week, I'd have purchased either Zalman 400W or Enermax's 460W in that review. But so far, I am quite happy with the Antec 430W... except for how much it hurts my pocket!
Antec for sure, avoid generic and unknown brand power supplies.
Enermax 350 hands down.
Antec or Enermax....a cheap psu can't regulate voltages as accurately as a good name brand one...so it's very possible for a 350watt antec to outperform a 450watt no-namer, because the antec can actually keep it's voltages stable, where as the no-namer might fluctuate a lot.
I've got CWT Black Cube which is a 'known brand' over in my neck of the wood. It's rated at 450W and, so far, hasn't let me down.....yet.:p Anyone's heard of CWT?
Nope. What does it stand for??Quote:

Antec. You don't want to skimp on the quality of something important like your PSU
I would get the Antec 350W. Best thing IMHO there. ;)
i have an aopen 300w psu powering the system in my sig;

i challenge anyone to find a quieter psu ;) this thing runs pretty much silently. i think the 120mm fan helps alot :)
It depends on what you need. I've seen the best 12v rails on Enermax. Otherwise Antec is fine as well. I've seen a review of a crappy 400W PSU that only went up to like 12a on the 12v rail. There were 250W ones that beat it even.Quote:

Eric
I have the same 300w psu in my backup box plan now. Great product. It went through 3-4 motherboards and chips, 3 video cards and various other upgrades and still works. I'd almost say got an antec prematurely in terms of necessity, but despite the obvious antec advantage, I can't "really" compare two suppply units that never burned out on me. I still have that one extra fan that seems to lack power even at 430w. I've really got to rewire the mainboard one of these days.Quote:

defenitely a name brand one. cheapo is no good. and depends on what the system requires. my system doesnt even require a 350. but i have an antec right now. after seeing my dad's generic PSU go out and destroy his computer, i dont want to risk it.
This thread reminded me of how much I need to ditch my generic, case-included power supply. The Antec Truepower PSUs sound pretty good.
Channel Well Technology - I think. :o Over here, they retail for about 2/3 the price of say, an Antec 430W. AFAIK, nobody's ever complained about 'em.:)Quote:

BTW - I'm currently running an Antec "SmartPower" 350 watt with an
ATI 9700PRO. No problems.:D
Would you consider 'HEC' a generic? I've been toying for weeks about getting something other than my HEC 350W - I'm wondring is my o/c issues (poor me, 2.4G max on my Barton 2500+) are PSU related...
Note: CompUSA has the Antec 350 SmartBlue for $50 after rebates....????
