I do believe I found my next processor!
Heh, I never doubted that my favorite chip of all time would re-enter the OC'ing market as a beast. I wonder why AMD is releasing all these new stepping CPU's on their lower end chips?

The answer is somewhere in that thread.:D
Basically an 1800+ that thinks it's a Barton 2500+, but no one told it that is was actually an 1800+:p
Well, just ordered mine a minute ago!
$59 shipped for the Retail and a free Newegg pen!:D
I never thought I'd buy another 1800+.:D
Should be here Wednesday!
Do I need one? No. Did I order one? Uhhhhh, couldn't resist - $59 retail, and with all the fave comments????
So...you ordered one???Quote:

Did you get the free pen with it? That just put me over the top!;):D
What state are you in Hwmicre?
they upped their price on them by $3...i got a retail 1800+ JIXIB 0331 a few weeks ago from newegg for $56 and free shipping...have the chip at 2.3Ghz right now (12x192) on 1.85V :D
my room is like a desert though, and the ambient temps in my room, which is upstairs, are terrible (with 4 120mm intakes, 2 120mm exhausts and 2 80mm exhausts, my case temps are still often above 32C  ).
i'm waiting for my slk-900 to come in to try and take the voltage further, because with my pal8045 i've seen temps as high as 54C in the middle of the day, which is a bit much for my tastes.
So are you pretty much guarenteed one of the better steppings if you order now? Are these 1800's better price/performance than the 2500 now... it seems the avg o/c on a 2500 brings it to a 3200 level which are like 2.1ghz? These are hitting 2.4ghz easy on air...
i'd say they are....most of the barton 2500+ chips will actually go further than 2.1, but at 2/3 the price of the 2500+, these 1800+ chips are an absolute steal IMO.Quote:

That was my justification exactly, then with the left-over money I was able to buy an Audigy soundcard.:cool:Quote:

Also, there have been a lot of new Barton revisions that have been overclocking poorly. Now is probably a good time to buy the 1800+, just like the Barton was good to buy when it first came out. Just my $.02.:D
Ok before I go blow 60 bucks on this I have one final question. I have 512mb of pc2700 crucial that I'll be using. Will getting a stable 200mhz fsb be even possible? Even if I can only run this thing at 2.2-2.3ghz instead of the 2.5 a lot of people are getting it'll be fine, as it is still a nice inexpensive upgrade from the 1.7ghz i'm using now.
Geez, didn't even SEE the pen.....I be in New Joisey.....(Yep, I did order it.....the retail.....)Quote:

I highly doubt your Crucial will make it to PC3200 speeds, but then again, my PC2100 did so you might just get lucky!;)Quote:

You can still up the multiplier to get the higher MHZ though.:)
Ok, then I'll be getting it before you then!:p I just wanted to know what stepping I might get, but I guess you'll be the lucky:pQuote:

Cross your fingers.
Okies well I'll be honest I dont oc much other than my video card when running benchmarks. That said I wen't into the bios and tried playing around to see what the ram could handle before buying a 1800+.
I set the memory speed to sync, made it the same fsb as whatever i set as the fsb. My default multiplier is 13x, not unlocked so cant change it. pc2700 ram, 333mhz, figured it would run set at a 166fsb pretty easy. Doesnt, wont even boot, have to restart comp and it resets itself to 100mhz fsb and i can try again. Is this because my multiplier is too high or what? Unlocking it though, say I can even do... 180x12, thats still only 2100mhz..
Ram is crucial pc2700, xp2100+ cpu, asus a7n8x mobo.
I don't know about your cooling, temps, volts, whatever, but you should be able to run 13x166 fairly easily.....Quote:

Note: Speed, i just ordered mine a few hours ago.....maybe you'll be the lucky one, who knows?? I DO hope we get the same (good) stepping, tho'....
I have a slk heatsink, delta 80mm fan, as3. Normal temps after hours and hours of gaming is usually in the low/mid 30s. Case is very organized for airflow. CPU voltage is 1.75v. I set my memory timings to aggressive, believe it makes it like 7-2-2 or something. 420w psu thats rock solid.
Don't feel too bad, my Crucial didn't even like 145 fsb. It's pc2100, but I thought it would be able to hit that. Crucial doesn't OC well at all, but it's stable as a rock:)Quote:

Sucks, doesn't seem like those 1800 prices are special or anything so I guess I'll pass till i scrounge up some new ram~
Since when is a sub $60 processor not special??? Get a 1700+ then!
DAoC, you may need more voltage to run at 13x166. Don't rule out your RAM just yet...after all, its rated to run at 166!:p

Wow, 1.1v to run at 1.533GHZ(stock)!!!:eek: These do look promising!!!:)
Heh, I noticed this as well.. I put an 1800+ in the machine for my mom, and I was amazed to find that it was stable, cold (32C avg.) and clocked at 2.1 ghz! I was pretty impressed for it all being stock. :)
When did you buy it? Not bad...
the xp1800 DLT3c are good for stock or crap cooling solutions or for those afraid or unable to pump high voltages. my xp2000 does 2.47GHz, although she needs 2.2v for that. I only run her at that for 3dmark and benchmarks. The benefit of those are you can run modest overclocks at low voltages 24/7 and without tons of heat. If I got one of those, It may be a downgrade but ill be able to use lower voltages and lower temps
