9500pro
I am very interested to find out how this post turns out. I currently have a 5600 ultra 128mb and I would definetely not suggest it. I can even run Halo with 2.0 pixel shaders (20 fps). I don't have a fast PC but a 2400xp with 768mb of RAM should play halo. Have you seen Valve's latest benchmarks with HL2 on the FX cards? Very disappointing for Nvidia cards. Granted this is probably a driver issue on Nvidia's part but why put up with all the hassle?
9500 pro as well

9500 pro then,9600 pro,5600U(maybe a Ti4600) and lastly any GF4 Ti.
5600 Non Ultra = R.I.P
9500pro might be slightly better, but the price on the 9600pro is much nicer. Get a 9700np over a 9500pro, and if you want a little cheaper go for 9600pro.
Well if cost is an issue the Radeon 9600pro is probably the best bang for the buck card right now, in terms of overall performence the Radeon 9500pro is definatly the best.

i'm not buying this videocard (fortunately i have a 9800pro  )
a friend of mine is:cool:
unfortunately I don't think any of the current cards at their respective price points are worth it right now. Until nvidia can get their act together and make decent cards again, I fear that the prices will only stay inflated on mediocre cards. It's a sad time for poor (monetarily speaking of course) gamers.
I'd go 9700np over 9500Pro. Value is a debatable point - obviously, spending twice the price will not provide twice the performance...
what about a 9800np? I know those cost a ton but prices will slowly drop. otherwise see if you can get a used 9500 pro on ebay but it wont be exactly cheap. What is your budget anyway? There is a certain good cheap card I really love ;)
He didn't specify, but I've a feeling he's takling $200 tops......Quote:

Tbird, have you undergone hypnotherapy? Can you not say a certain word now????:D :D

Kappa2001, I think you'll find many recommending the 9500Pro as the card of choice from those listed by you. The 9500Pro commands a premium price still - not talking about ebay :p - and (may be hard to find), but at that price, your friend could , perhaps, consider the 9700NP (IF he/she can find it). Below these two aforementioned cards, I would also recommend the 9600XT and 9600Pro. Nothing below these is worth considering.;) As for the FX5600, you get a DX9 card that can't run DX9 games well - based on some recent benchmarks - and is NOT a fast DX8 card either - it's owned by, say, a Ti4400 in DX8 games It's sorta like in noman's land in terms of DX8 and DX9 games. You'd be better off with a Ti clas card for DX8 gaming goodness!:)
A recent announcement of the release of the new Det drivers may help fix some of these issues - both IQ and FRs, so IF your friend can wait and see if the Dets help, then by all means, wait! :D
Have you tried the latest drivers? Halo uses the 2.0 shaders?!?! Didn't know that. You should try the latest beta drivers. Although the drivers ARE beta I would suggest them anyway (you should get less headaches if anything).
I'd recommend getting a 9600 as the GF FX doesn't like your rig, but that's not exactly a cheap route....
Where can you get the beta drivers from. I didn't think nvidia had released the 50.xx beta drivers yet. Any info is greatly appreciated. Yes Halo does use 2.0 shaders just not very well on FX cards. ThanksQuote:

yep, halo use 2.0 shaders when it can.... just very badly! i had to force it to use 1.1 shaders in order to get a decent frame rate.
