3dmark is owning me....

Ok, I fell into this Thunderbird1ghz style wave, and started to see how high I could get my PC.

Last time I tried I got around 13k (cant remember exact, neer saved)

So first I fired it up under totally stock settings...

Score: 11393

Then I ran it totally O/c'ed, P4 @ 3.01ghz (bus=158mhz, vcore=1.65) and my 4400 @ 300/650 (4600 stock settings)

Score: 11960!!!

Ok, thats messed up. 500mhz more power and a difference in card speed that =$100...

so I tried some other drivers... (first time around I was using 40.72)

while still under o/c:
Score: 11842
44.03 drivers
Score: 11256
4523 drivers

...
what am I doing wrong?

oh well my lappy still only gets half that.

These scores are really bad... You should be at like 14k with that CPU and vid card... :confused:

melee, are you running with aa/af turned off, vsync turned to always off and also under the performance and quality section do you have the slider turned to performance..

your cpu is a bottleneck. its not even a p4c and thus does not use 200fsb so I can see why the low score. a faster cpu, should you choose when the time is right, would greatly increase your score. I shall wait for an a64 then 20k is mine :D

Since when is a Pentium 4 CPU at 3 Ghz a bottleneck Tbird??

Ok Melee, as Lonewolfroger said you need to look at all of your VC performance settings. Also make sure you don't have a bunch of other apps running when you do 3dmark. What are your ram timings? IMO you just need to go step by step and tune your system up for 3dmarks. I would suggest you start with Pyro's guide(link below) Once you have done all you can from that guide, start asking for some more specific tweaks. I would also contact Colossus on this forum. He is a senior member, has a P4 rig with a TI4400 and will be able to offer you some good advice. You should be able to hit 14K with that setup, I know I did when I had my P4 2.53 and leadtek TI4400, This score was done when I knew almost nothing about tweaking and my card was barely overclocked http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=6541536

FYI There are no ti4200 that broke 20k yet, all those 20k+ scores are ti4800se with a flashed bios

as for that score being the highest for a ti4200....that score is 70% or more cpu, if you slap a faster cpu in that pc it will go up, the vid card has maxed and 3dmark is just throwing more numbers due to the cpu performance. thats my opinion, if it takes a p4 at 4GHZ to max out a ti4200 then its gonna take a 15GHZ cpu (probably 4 years away) to max out a 9800 pro

edit: not to mention the guy somehow managed to clock it to 365/760, i think he submerged his pc in liquid nitrogen before running 3dmark :D

I'm not sure what "max out" means, but when HardOCP overclocked a P4 to 4Ghz they said the 9700Pro they were using was starting to be a bottleneck to performance. I took this to mean that the CPU was giving more information than the video card could process.

when someone doubt about thier score he will only say that fsb is the problme and
last he will say that when he get the a64 he will able to hit 20k on his ti4200

So what? By the time you buy an A64 setup, 3DMark01 won't even be used(except by you). Also, the differences between your scores and better cards will increase due to the unbottlenecking of the card.

I can't remember where I read it, but it was an 8500 review and one company, can't remember which, but it might have been Matrox, stated that a 4GHZ CPU was needed to FULLY load a video card. They didn't have 4GHZ CPUs back then though and Matrox cards aren't for gaming so take that for what's worth.

With my system exactly as you see it my sig I pull down 13.4K in 3DMark 2K1. If you're running a DC memory config, the extra bandwidth should put you up around that 14K range.

But like the others said, you need to check your settings. Under the Performance option turn it to the highest performance option, and disable AA/AF. You should also go to the D3D tab and set, the filter or aniso option (can't remeber and not in front of my system) to Best Performance.

Don't forget to shut down any background tasks that you don't need running, like AV programs, etc., before you start your testing.

Tried most the stuff in the guide. Checked and yeah my settings were all for performance...

I always run with no programs (even explorer) running. I reran it, same res and bit depth as 3dmark. I pulled out 11992....

Not even 12k. Im not a 3dmark whore, just rather disspointed with my results. I am gonna fool around with my ran, which i havent touched.

Also, I am running a 2 partition (1. windows, 2. apps.) system already. Its getting a little clutered (1.5 left on 5gb windows, 20 left on 70gb apps) so I may reformat.

Stupid benchmarking program. Then again, games run smooth so who cares... *looks at thunderbird... :)

Hi there, I wanted to point out someone thought you had a p4c but yours is a p4b at 133fsb oced to 158fsb. It is not a 2.4c at 3GHz on 250fsb. some may get confused though since so many p4's are the new ones. additionally 3dmark loves tons of fsb and ram bandwith. anyway get your ram timings up, use the most aggressive timings you can and dual channel if supported, that should gain 500+ marks. Your score may be low due to a number of factors including high ram latency. I got flamed for saying the cpu is a bottleneck, but then I can see your car chase high details is only 60fps and thats a cpu intensive game. Thus this leds me to suspect its the cpu side that stems from your low score. additionally, what I said was not misleding since he really does have a p4b and not a p4c, so this is true. also it is true his car chase high details is 60fps. get your ram timings better and see what it does and ill see how else I can help. If others say you should get 14k, then lets all help him get 14k then :)

yah, it's because the albatron turbo uses 3.3ns BGA ram plus it is built on a ti4600 PCB

barely overclocked? 315/545 and thats a pretty good clock, especially the core and yours is 128mb. also your cpu is 174fsb and 3.15GHz. finally your ram is probably cas2. If his ram is cas3, this hurts performance badly. also he probably doesnt have the same mobo. like I suggested, he reduce the ram latency and see

Hehe, thats the one thing I havent fooled around with (ram),

I had it pretty good, when I had 512mb, (I think thats when I got 13k) but when I upgraded, I had to start new, and never really did anything.

Im gonna see if I can fool around with the timings (I think thats the problem)

funny thing is, I got around the same score on high detail car chase with my cpu at stock and o/c:

I am waiting to do major stuff, to my cpu, until I get some more cooling, right now its at 98'F idle.... (about 103 when running stuff)
But i think my bottleneck lies in the ram.

Could having 1.5gbs free on my windows parition (I have 20gb free on apps partition) have any effect on the peformance.

Also I heard turning 3dmarks prioty to "real time" gets you more marks, true or false?
