is 62c too hot?

Im running my new 2500 barton on a stock hsf@200x11 running 3200+ and everythings pretty much stable accept halo, it crashes constantly.

I read that my a7n8x board being a rev 1.04 and not a rev 2.0 has stability problems running barton 333's and that it may help moving the jumper on the board from 266/333 to 200, anyone do this and had success?

Im only running mushkin 2700 cas2.5's and wondering if my memory will handle this?

my mem timings are 2.5,3,3,11 and just running under the bios its at 62-63c/145f isnt that kinda hot?

If i buy a better hsf(noisy bastards)will it really bring my temps down that much? the fans already running at 4100rpm

Is there a program out there where i can look at my cpu temps while in windows under load? im a newb i know, thx in advance.

man if that is the idle temp you have to back down. or put a slk800 or 900 with a good fan up there.

if 62 is your idle temp than under full load let's say 70. that' gives you 10 degrees headroom before you smell something funny :P

That's hot enough I'd drop the multiplier a notch until you can improve your cooling.

You'll definitely wanna get a decent hsf pronto, and maybe even drop the speed/voltage of the chip for now so you don't damage it anymore than it might have been already.:eek:

MBM5 will monitor your temps in Windows. You should also get memtest86 and check your memory running at that speed.... and as all the other have said you are running way too hot.

Thx guys.

I took my pc down to a local place here in town that usually has guys that know what there doing, we reseated my hsf and he put some thermal grease that looked a helluva lot more robust than the stuff i used, he also put it on in a better manner than i did and bang my cpu started up at 36c.

I got it home and oced to 3200+ it runs at 48-50.

A question about speed fan and mbm5 i downed them all and it seems my board doesnt have a sensor for the cpu? a7n8x deluxe.

im getting read outs for system bus and whatnot but not the cpu and that mbm5 just confuses my small mind..

running speed fan im getting a 51c for temp 1 which is hot, is this my boards chipset? i touched the hs on what i believe is the chipset and that sucker is hot to the touch..it all seems stable but id like to cool things down, also my hdd is pretty hot also..

would a couple of case fans help?

Heck man I have over 50c at idle sometimes at stock! How can you check temps at full load anyway?

run superpi or prime95...something that runs in a smaller window where you can have the temp monitor open too.

Using CPU temperature monitoring software in Windows. For example: MB probe. Download here http://www.majorgeeks.com/download283.html

Other programs like CPU Burn-in will stress your CPU so it's under full load.

Um, to check your temps at full load, check your temps at full load.....or maybe I don't understand the question.

FYI, simple, startup temperature is utterly meaningless - it takes about 10 minutes of running for your temps to come up.

And stress/stability testing..... how about a GAME?

How do you check temps when playing a game? I ran super pi and my highest temp on speedfan was 56c.

Yes, it is. It may come as a surprise for you, but most people here like to brag about their cooling and sub50C temps.
I lived just fine with my old Tbird @1350MHz at 64C (load, mesured with under socket sensor, the die could be 10-20C higher) for over 1 year. Rock stable, just hot. A 60C running Tbred/Barton (temps mesured within the core) doesn't impres me at all. One oaf my friends has an JIUHB running 63-64C also, no worries, is still going strong.
And yes, the best Athlon heating tool is TOAST. My old Tbird would hit 70C with Toast(again, no crashes) :D

That temp of 60 degrees is with the on chip sensor, not the under chip socket one. Socket is always about 40-45 degrees. Considering it s pretty beefy OC on air, I think it's proly alright.

I say it's fine if it's a diode reading, and even if it was a socket reading I wouldn't give **** until I had bad stability problems because with modern mobos it is actually very hard to cook a chip, even an AMD that has no built-in thermal throttling. The simple truth is none of us can do apples-to-apples temperature comparisons because there are so many variables between systems.

My diode reading can get into the low 60ºC range at full load so the temp isn't the greatest concern. What is and should be is system stability. A warm stable system is always better than a cool unstable one. Admittedly cooler is better than warmer but stability is the prime key.
