Who here built your first machine with Sharky's help?
Not me. I built my first years before our forums here showed up on the scene. :p
That would be me, built my first custom job with help from Sharky's. It was a beast back in the day. Also thanks to Sharky I was able to OC it from 466 to 630 and keep it upgraded over the years, that was
Celeron 466 (OC 560 stable, later upgraded to 1ghz P3)
256MB PC100 (upgraded to 512MB PC133)
14.3 GB HDD (upgraded to 40GB IBM - now dead)
ATI Rage Pro 8MB (upgrade to Radeon 32DDR - now dead)
Aurreal 1.0 Soundcard (upgraded to Rhythmic Edge)
Back in the day it ran CS at a constant 71fps. Booyah!
me...I remember when I bought everything I was so afraid to touch it...I had like 0 confidence that it would actually work...and well..it did work :)
My first ones were long before Sharkys was around, but there have been 4 systems built following closely to buying guides here, and a dozen or more recommended to others from here.
I built my first rig with the help of Sharky members. :)
I'm sure you all remember me talking on here about building a PC
I put mine together thru my own research... It started first as Celeron 433 system few years ago. Evolved into Pentium III 1 GHz and then into this current Athlon XP 1600+ system.
The most scary thing was putting the Orb on to my Duron... SOOOO afraid it was going to crack with all the stories I've heard about.Quote:

I DID!! about two or three years ago, i knew nothing about computers....all my friends were huge gamers(quake, doom, etc.) and that got me interested. I'm proud to say that everything i know, i learned here at sharky, mostly....now, i know more than they do and i can laugh at their ignorance...buying dells, what were they thinking??;) :D
I did about a 3-4 years ago. I read AMD was king and grabed the KT133A Tbird 850MHZ and 256SDRAM:D That combo was 300$ Also my next upgrade I was on a major buget, 300$ and again SF helped out. Grab a cheap Shuttle AK31, 256 PC2100 Cruical, 8500LE(that card rocked!!) and a 1.3Tbird that did 1.5GHZ. all under 300$ last summer:D
I built my first before I knew SF or SE existed. I can say I got help on upgrades on second computer and almost the whole thing on my third
My first system, an AMD Thunderbird 1.1ghz based system, was built with the suggestions of this board :)
i built my first pc when i was very new to sharkys and didn't come here much, after i had a nice rig to show off i decided to start posting here more often and get to know people here, i know i'm still a n00b to the site but i'm starting to really feel at home here
i know i'll be here for any advice on future upgrades and to help others with their pc questions!
I built my first computer (the one in my sig that I'm still using to this day) on my own. Then a few months later I joined Sharky's.
Not me, I built the first one in 1996, not sure if SF was around. Even if it was I had a slow internet connection. When it comes to my next one, I will be sure to get some advice from here.
I did. My first was a P3 450. My second computer that I built for myself is my current rig, an AMD Thunderbird 1.2 w/512 RAM and a Geforce 2 GTS. It use to be smoking fast but it is past time for an upgrade. Most of what I know about computers has come from Sharky's and doing research elsewhere. Sharky's has saved me tons of money and kept me from making bad decisions. Thanks guys!
I haven't even built my first computer yet for home use. :o
i built my first system before i even knew what the internet was
damn how long ago was that?!:eek:Quote:

i did and then again, and then a wc setup and you dang people are going to put the pelt idea in my head :)
The first system I built was in about 96.. a 486DX2/66.
But I've gained some confidence in my upgrades from being here :)
I did, just under a year ago too.
I had plenty of experience using PCs, reformatting disks, installing video cards, etc, beforehand, but actually ordering all the parts seperately and building the PC from the ground up was done with Sharky's help (and a few other sites as well).
I must say, it was insanely easy. The only "difficult" part really was installing the CPU/Heatsink...and the only reason it could really be considered difficult in the first place was because it's easily the most delicate part, so you're much more nervous and apprehensive about it.
Other than though, everything snapped together like a breeze, booted the first time on and I've been lovin the machine in my sig since the day it was assembled.
Kudos to all who gave their input a year ago. :D
