corrected link there ya go!
Thanks... I was working on it. ;)Quote:
sure, np.:p That is an insane amount of money to drop on a chip. Any news on if they will release lower speed version of this chip at a bit lower of a price?
I can't back this up, but I thought when they showed it at IDF that they showed differant models not just the 3.2GHz. But I doubt in all certainty that they don't drop the price much in any form of timely manner.
So??? :pQuote:
EE shipping soon....
I'd rather have another computer.

yea, you can build a 2500/9800 rig for that much, and you can easily get 20k as opposed to, what, 22-23k with that $1000 chip without amazing cooling and radeon v-mods.
One SharkyExtreme Value gaming system or just one chip????
I will go for the whole computer.
I will be going for the chip :D I'll let you know how it works out
you can't be serious?! you're gonna drop 1k on that beast? :eek:Quote:

He's dead serious :) Be kinda funny if a 3.4 Prescott manages to outperform it, then he'll go for that or something :)
Oh by no means was I saying YAY. I was just pointing that they were coming out soon. I won't get one and don't want one. But hey at least the paper launch wasn't too terribly early. On the money issue, Oh helllll nooo. Look at my sig, I built this rig for less than that one CPU cost.
This is kind of a none event as far as I am concerned. Intel might be pulling another 1ghz PIII. They came up with a few chips that worked but they could not deliver otherwise. It remains to be seen if they can deliver the EE in quanity. And at 1000USD, who would be stupid enough to spend that kind of money on what is essentially a highly tweaked version of a chip that is at the end of it's rope. Just wait until their next generation chips are out in the next few months.
there will be versions of the 2.4C + with 1MB of level 2 cache.Quote:

EDIT:
+ meaning "and above" :)
I am stupid enough. Actually I don't consider myself stupid at all. I work hard and spend my money how I choose according to my budget. My buying this chip is no different than somebody who spends $300 on a bottle of champane. Furthermore, I still remember the days when a Pentium chip was like $2000. Rather than call somebody stupid for their choice of hardware, why don't you focus on your own machine.Quote:

I agree with you Ranger....Quote:

People who think it is stupid are people who cannot afford a $1000 chip :)
Its like people who buy a $40 AMD chip and get a heatsink and fan combo which cost more then the processor! Or people who spend $3000 is just cooling their setup with all Prommies...
Its all about what will make one happy... I have said it before and I'll say it again. The P4EE is a sweet chip :) And no its not a paper launch as some AMD fanatics would like to think.. Since I was able to order a complete setup with a 3.2EE about 2 months ago now :)
I am pondering a 3.2EE as well, instead of a Prescott...
Thanks for the support Colossus :D I get a little tired of hearing people slam other people because they spent more money on their rig than the next guy. Anyway, I hope you get the EE too. Then we can be the double threat on Sharky's :D :D
Really i am just buying this chip to make Mikey mad. He wants so bad for the AMD crowd to take the title back and I just can't let that happen. I have a lot of responsibility you know
BTW it's nice to see you posting a little here and there again
hmm, maybe I should drop the money on a quad opteron system, I bet that would be a beast. :p
Well since it's your money and you worked for it, it's your choice
pfff... I have no problem with spending money on nice things if you have it. I would deffinatly get a quad opteron system if I didn't have to pay for school.Quote:

A quad setup is cool, but the standard Opteron only handles 2 processors.. You need the more expensive Opteron (about $1300 a pop) for anything over 2 processors :)Quote:

So a total of $5200 (1.8Ghz model only) in processors alone :D Not to mention another $1000+ for the board :)
But it does sound sweet :D
I'll third that. I work hard for my money and I budget appropriately for what I can spend on my computer / other hobbies. It can be a bit demoralising to be "preyed upon" for spending that bit extra (or alot extra :p ) on more "advanced" / faster hardware.Quote:

As for the P4 3.2EE, it's a fast chip and all, but I'll stick with my FX-51.
Quad Opterons - That'd be fun. Out of interest does anyone here run any software that could take advantage of 4+ processors, not including software you use at work / school / university?
Edit: Found this http://www.savastore.com/products/pr...10271842&pid=1
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that a 4-8 way 2.0Ghz Opteron?
I absolutely concur with ranger here and Colossus used one of my favorite phrases Its all about what will make one happy.
