But in a good way!! LOL! My wife and I got a Roomba as a gift, and I was surprised how well it actually works. Nothing like a robot doing the vacuuming while you surf Sharky.

LOL, subject through me. :D
I was wondering how well those worked. Great idea, but if it's only as powerful as a dustbuster than I don't know. How's yours? Does it pick up the grit, is it loud?
Either way, I'm jealous. :)
Let the robot revolution begin!
It is admittedly, not as powerful as a fullsize vacuum, I think it uses 30watts of power. But it cleans better than a dustbuster. It will run about 90 minutes on a full charge, works great on hard floors surprisingly well on low pile carpet. It is about half as loud as an upright. It comes with a charger that will charge the battery in 12 hours, they sell a quick charger that will do it in 2.5. Because of it's low profile it can clean where I can't, like under the bed.

I was thrown off by the title too...
But I was wondering how powerful and well one of those can be... I mean how can a small rechargable pack power anything that powerful without being completely discharged in 10 seconds :D
So how is the remote.???? Is it the basic kind found on remote control cars?
a local news station did some product testing and the roomba was one of the products tested, they made a 16' by 16' room with furniture and layed a bunch of rice krispies down, the floor was tile btw.... it got 95% of the stuff on the floor, which is good for a robot! but it is MUCH faster and MUCH cleaner to do it yourself in a fraction of the time.
Bah. Do it yourself. Yeah right. Just get like, I duhno, 8 of them and put them all over.
That's exactly how I thought, my remote control cars seemed to last 15 minutes on a full charge, how could there be such a thing as a robotic vacuum. But I had the good fortune of getting one as a gift and it works great. It cleans about 5 times better than I thought it would. It won't completely replace an upright, but it will replace 95% of your total upright use. The remote is pretty short range, and the robot has to be in your line of site for it to work. The main advantage of the remote is not having to lean over to press the programming buttons, and if it stops directly under a piece of furniture, you can drive it out. You can clean about 3 rooms on a single charge. It takes about 30 minutes for it to do an entire room. It comes with a pretty large battery, I guess that is why it last so long.Quote:

The thing about it is this: Even if it doesn't pick as much up in one pass, you can always recharge it and let it have at it the next day, without a problem. I mean, do any of you vacuum two days in a row in the same room? I know I don't.
I would let it roam around my room while I'm gaming.
LOL! 30 watts!!!
Most good vacuums are around 800 watts!:D
Yeah, and they are so powerful, they actually hurt the carpet :)
I am actually suprised at the cost...
I figured it would be like $50-$75, but the ones on that page are $200 - $250...
I think I'll keep my upright... It did cost me a nice penny :)
What kind do you have? Melie or Simplicity I hope? THOSE vacuums don't hurt the carpet...:D They gently massage it:D
Honestly, who cleans the floor? I just put down sand, then cover up the mess. Sand is cheap.
after this little thread i asked myself "have people gotten this lazy?" first we had the broom, then came the vacuum which made it easier to clean your floor, no sweeping, just walk over the dirt and its gone... now it's a motorized robot that moves around the floor, and you have a remote to control it cause you're too fat and lazy to push something over the dirt... yowza... it's a wonder we have the fattest country.
What????!!!!???
We americans are not FAT... On that note I need a drink...
*presses remote button and his chair raises off the floor and tilts to make it easier for him to get to his feet*
Then walks to stairs
*sits in seat* and presses another button to take chair lift to 1st floor...
I think I am offended by the statement of being fat! :D
Who wants to walk? Why not get a mini fridge and put it next to your computer? :)Quote:

That's what I seriously have. Albeit, I'm by no means fat. I'm actually trying to gain some weight.Quote:

Always good for my gallons of arizona green tea, while I'm gaming though, and a couple soda cans in the door. :D
I usually only occasionally leave snacks in my room. I can't really say much about the food, considering it's 4:30am and I'm eating a pasta meal that I just prepared. :D
If only I could convince my Mom to do that:D I should look into one of these for my Mom. I how much are they?Quote:

The entry level model is $159, the top of the line $249. I got mine as a gift from my folks. One the best gifts I got this year.
hehehe, I have a remote controlled vacuum too.. I look at the wife and tell her to vacuum... Then she makes me sleep on the couch for the night :(Quote:

But I think if I bought that.. The weekly house cleaning people that come in would fight over who will use it to vacuum.. And they wont get anything done!
Can it navigate around obsticles and still vacuum the whole room? Eg. Under a table, around a sofa
It has sensors built into the front of it as well as a big bumper. If it bumps into something, it is programmed to rotate(it can spin in place), and move around the object. I've only had it get caught once. It got high centered on a low profile music stand leg. When it sweeps under my kitchen table, it will stop and then do a 360 loop around the leg. It also detects walls and move straight along them. Maybe I should make a few mpegs of it in action.Quote:

Now that would be cool... So it doesnt sense the edge until it bumps into something?Quote:
