Well It looks like I might be getting a Athlon XP 2500... Yes.. You heard me right!!!! An AMD!!!!
So here is the info... So can you tell from this how well it overclocks? He also says it is not locked.. Can anyone verify this?

Update... Its not a A7N8X but a A7V8X
well its unlocked, good steping code (aqxea), decent wafer number (not that it matters), and its a "Y" chip. It will overclock just fine, I think.
It's not locked - I don't know how to tell how well it overclocks, though.

I think that thing will overclock great... It's just the "25" that worries me a little, but it's usually false... the SPBW sounds really good too, people have been saying that the 3rd character is the quality of the wafer used for the CPU, the earlier the alphabet the better, so I guess B would be one of the best ones available out there..
And why A7V8X???? I think an A7V600 would do a much better job ;)

I'm assuming you'll want to OC it, if so you'll definitely want some corsair, mushkin, buffalo, etc etc etc.

yeah, looks like a good chip, but the board is only so so, definately not stellar for overclocking.
as for memory....since budget doesn't seem to be in your vocab ;) id go for mushkin black level 2, it's guaranteed to have bh5 so you can get the best overclock possible out of that chip is you get another mobo down the road. khx 3000 and 3200 will also likely have bh5, or if you can get your hands on some rev1.1 corsair 3200/3500 that'll have bh5 too.

Also I just want like 200Mhz FSB or more... I heard it did 230Mhz FSB on a A7N8X...

A KT400 does not have the AGP/PCI lock and it only has a 1/5 divider, so at a 200 fsb you will be running your AGP/PCI at 80/40.

KT600 has the 1/6 divider iirc so it runs at 66/33 when it's at 200FSB... I haven't seen KT400 doing well in FSB overclocking, afaik even KT333 does a better job at it.

Seeing as those are your only choices, I would go with the MSI MB..
If you plan on doing moderate OC, stay FAR FAR AWAY from MSI mobos unless you're willing to do a small wire trick... afaik all MSI mobos only allow a max of 0.1v above stock vcore to adjust... Even including the NF2 chipsets... But then you can always fool the motherboard ;)
Hm... Ironic the NF7-S is $10 cheaper than the MSI board near my place... Actually NF7-S is the cheapest NF2 mobo compared to other brands (only the ones with full features ;))
I have a MSI delta board I got to play around with and it will o/c a Barton 2500 to 11x 200 no problem at all hell I used a $10 stick of ram in it so it can't be all that bad. It just didnt like my tbred! Newegg has some buffolo winbond ch-5 on the cheap that work sweet but I know cheap is not at the top of your list;) I like to see how little I can spend to make it work right but thats just me.:DQuote:
