First Mod a Success!

Well, it's reading week, and like I said, I'd be making a blowhole in my Antec SX1040BII case once I had some time. I think it turned out really well. The pics are a little blurry in the dark, and in bright light too, lol.

Jigsaws ROCK, with 24-tooth steel-cutting blades. It was like a warm knife through butter :D .

After some careful measuring and some patience while cutting, here are some pics.

As a side note, my case temps dropped on average 4 degrees Celsius, and my cpu idles about 4c lower than before too (with fans on low vantec nexus voltages). With my fans on high, everything drops by *another* 3-4c. My regular temps now are 28c (case) and 37c (cpu), non o/c'd (yet).

Oh Man, did you screw up. :eek: This was your first MOD but I can guarantee not your last. Modding is an addiction and your hooked already. LOL:p
That Jigsaw made a nice cut, did ya do any filing afterward? What mods you have planned next?

Yea, its a 120mm 4-LED fan in there... with a laser-cut fan grill.
Its all really quiet once its on the fan controller, but can still go loud and strong if I desire.
Yes, I did use a metal file to smooth the edges, and to cut down the *one and only* significant burr that the jigsaw left as the hole was finishing being cut.

Next up: A window in the side panel. Got a kit for doors with handles. I probably would have been able to make a plexi from scratch now that I am slightly more experienced, but this should be relatively fun and easy.

very nice. I have been thinking of doing the tophole just for the aesthetics. That fan grill is sweet! Keep it up.

Wow abe, I knew you said it was a good cut... but that is nearly perfect!!... and I'm sure it was perfect once you got the file on it... it looks like the case manufacturer actually put that on.

Yeah, that is one hell of an awesome cut out, very nice work.

Well, I finally got around to getting that window done... and I think it turned out very well. Jigsaw again, and a small amount of filing on the sharp edges did the trick.

I used 2 empty Xerox paper boxes for the "disposable workbench" as I like to call it, and taped them together. After applying a few layers of green tape over the panel, I got to cutting.

Next, I think I will attempt some wire management, although I tried my best to hide many of the wires in there already.

Very nice indeed, its similar to the custom design I did to my case recently.

Here's an idea to make it look even better. Get some of the black rubber edge stripping and put the fan guard on the inside. Personally I dig that look.

I actually like the spiral grill on the exterior of the case, and besides, then there would be 4 silly-looking screws if I put the fan guard on the inside edge of the top panel.
I am quite pleased with the way I did the top fan hole, but everyone is entitled to his own opinion ;)

I beg to differ! I know that all I wanted to buy was a CC light, and I wound up spending $70 on other case mods! :) But at least I won't affect my health with this addiction

I think that modding has the potential to become the money-eater if you let it... I guess that, like anything else, you just have to know when to stop (Why stop?! :D ) but we all know that making something cool from something less cool is just plain fun.

Also, you since there is always room for improvement, it can give you a hobby and give you a goal. Cost? -- Shmost!

that is some nice work you did there! both times! ;) those cuts are very nice and smooth. wish i had a jigsaw. oh well...guess i'll still just have to do mine slow and carefully with my dremel! :D
