OK...So it's down to Sony vs. Powerbook...$1800 limit..
Main focus is wireless internet, portability, and word processing and must have a good screen for watching movies.
What you guys think?

Powerbook gets my vote, despite being slower. It will get you more ladies in coffee shops.

well...let's say they look the same..then what would have your vote? lol
The Sony, dependent on it having a Pentium M of decent speed in it.
They'll never look the same though, one says Apple and one doesn't. :)
Apple notebooks are in desperate need for an update though, which is the main reason behind Apple's switch to Intel.

So i'm confused..you're saying the Sony lightweights perform better than the apple?
Bump
sony = more stylish and arguably better features
ibm = best build quality
and IBM screen quality? how does that match up against the Sony?

sony uses their xbrite technology (also fujitsu and dell on the 700m) which has better IQ
Damn this is a hard decision!!
The Sony w/ Pentium M kills the Apple w/ G4. There's no comparison speed wise. But it really depends whether you need all the speed to begin with. The Sony will also offer longer battery life because of the P-M.

Yea..I realized the powerbook is outdated already...
So one more round... Sony vs. Dell 700M
Which performs better? My budget is around 1800..remember
You can get $750 off the 700M pretty frequently. They've been running massive laptop deals recently. You can get *much* more on the Dell for the same price, but the Dell isn't very attractive and the screen isn't as nice.
I'd buy the Dell though since I like Dell and you get so much more for your money.

$750 of?! damn..i'll check by the site frequently

Thanks MrD
AFAIK, Sony doesn't offer business models.
IMO I would also choose a business model over a consumer modelo.
A fair comparision would be, Sony and iMac
Or Dell's Latitude/Precision or HP/Compaq'a Evo and Powerbook
You also have to see what support and warranty each offers.
ok..1 more thing..just to make sure..since i'm pretty much settled on the 700M..
How does the 700M compare to the Alienware Sentia..the price isn't that much different
I customized each. Everything identical, except the battery, the Dell has a 8 cell (don't have a 6 cell to select) and it costs $100 more, (this with S&H to texas, and added tax for both). But Dell has right now a $300 MIR.Quote:

Aleinware: from 3.8lbs
Dell: from 4.1lbs
ADD: when I selected the 700m, I choose the second option (Entry) and instead of mail in rebate, it's Instant rebate.
Now it turns out $1,186.42 (final cost)
Hmm...so what you think?? Should I still choose the Dell over the Sentia..I can get a big coupon for the Dell still..but performance wise...what you think?
I can't comment, haven't used any of them
Good answer..^_^
