im paying $29/mo right now for 5mbps from RoadRunner/Time Warner
i wish we had Verison FIOS in our area though.... nothing beats $60/mo for 15mbps
Thats a great deal. ALthough i'd pay 90/month for high speed.. lol. I had dial up for lets see.. since 1994. Just got broadband last december.Quote:

Earlier this year Comcast went from 3Mbps to 4Mbps.
Now they have added another 2Mbps for a speed of 6Mbps.
My speed is 6334Kbps on Windows XP, but for some unknown reason I can only get 3700kbps max on Windows 2000.
Now $45 is starting to yield some justification.
Here in the twin cities area of MN, we at 4mps. WE should be moving to 6mps but i'm not sure when.
Verison FIOS spunds sweet! I wish that came to the mid west.
I'm jealous. I am stuck with Charter cable (local monopoly - they actually payed off the city board to keep Comcast out). Comcast is available ~20mi south of me and they have 4Mb (could be 6 now I suppose) while I'm stuck with 3. The connection itself is as fast as 3Mb gets, but if you have to deal with a person @ the CO it is a nightmare.... most unbelievably unintelligent staff.
Congrats on the 6Mb.
I had the same problem and after a couple of lengthy phone calls to convince them failed I had to fax the receipt to them. Another time they stole my modem and replaced it with an old used one and after several calls assuring me I would get a call about it. Well guess what I never got a call but they finally credited me for the modem. Another problem....Quote:

Awesome, people talking about broadband speeds. There's nothing better than living on a good college campus for Internet speed. Highest I've done on a speed test here was about 23Mbps, and the reason it wasn't higher is because the test servers for the most part are slower than my connection. I've downloaded things around 5 to 6 megabytes per second before on good servers :D :D That translates to close to 50Mbps. I'll miss this when I graduate...
DrTCP came up with blank windows in both 2000 and XP so there is nothing to view/compare. The only thing it detected was my network card.Quote:

I suspect it's the cable modem. I never had these issues with my previous cable modem, just this Motorola.
I tried several recommended tweaks from several of the broadband sites and all of them cut my speed even more dramatically.
I'm through playing with the Registry. Every tweak just makes it worse.
It is what it is, I'm done.

what does 5Mbps translate to? i get 550k/sec with RR. is that more than 3Mbps?
i'm assuming you mean 550 kilobytes per second, which translates to 4.4 megabits per second.Quote:
