Building a computer (Minus Monitor and other things) what would you get? Need Advice!

So if you guys had $750 for a computer what would you guys get and why? I am looking to build a new computer in the near future (one or two weeks) and would like your guys input. I don't know what is out there now, I built my AMD 800 in september, and would just like some advice on what would be good to get. I was going to spend more but I had a fraudulent charge on my check card for $130 so it is going to be sometime until that gets straightned out.

Anyways, this is what I already have-

Nice 17" Monitor
v5 5500 Video Card
SB Live! Sound Card
Network Card
CD-RW Drive (Only 8x but the thing kicks ***!)
CD-Rom
And I have the software I need

Here is more that I thought I should add
I am "upgrading" from a T-Bird 800 and Asus A7V. I also have a 256mb stick of PC133 Infineon RAM that I bought from a guy over at Fatwallet. Actually I didn't know I bought it until it showed up on my door, lol, but that is a different story.

So knowing that I have the motherboard and RAM that I could sell if I needed too what would you guys go for?

Now if I keep the Mobo and RAM it would bring the total down to $550 on what I could spend.

so get a duron 900, keep the asus a7v, get another hard drive and do a RAID, a kyro 2 and call it a day. spend the excess on something useful, like a new screename. really.

I personally like my v5 5500. I have had it for a while now and I am content with it until something amazingly better comes out. I like the sound of a Geforce 3 but I don't like the price. I am patient on that.

The reason why I am building a new system becuase my brother really needed a computer so I basically gave him the parts he needed from mine, hence I need to new parts. I just want to get the best for what I can afford. Someone suggested DDR Memory, I am asking questions so I can become better informed in my purchases.

You've already got a pretty strong computer. You might wanna upgrade you're processor. Maybe you might want to sacrifice the voodoo 5 to Satan or Khutulu. It kind of sucks, wait for the KYRO II, and you could upgrade from the SB Live to a GameTheater XP. And if you've got extra cash to blow, checkout Inwin's Alaska custom cases. They have good cooling, and they look cooler than any case I've ever seen in my life. The URL is on sharky extreme's main webpage.

Why would you want to get a Kyro II that has "close to Geforce 2 GTS performance" for $150, if you can get a Geforce 2 GTS Pro for $150?

Like I said in my last post, my v5 is fine for now. I will probably get a Geforce 3 or something like that in the near future but for now it suits my needs. I mainly use my computer for Audio Engineering so having a more powerful proc and lots of RAM is great, having the top of the line Video Card is not. wow youve got a lot of money to spend...honestly i think you should be sitting pretty, i dont think theres any upgrade u can get now that would be worth the cost

maybe upgrade your speaks? or get a burner/dvd? tv tuner? look to expanding the capabilities of your computer, instead of speeding up the things it can already do

maybe u may want to consider Pentium 4. They say it does good specially on what you intend to use your compy. Also, get an additional, bigger capacity harddisk.

That would be about, eeh... $250. Around there.

A7V does not support DDR platform so you can't get PC21OO unless you swap out your board. If you keep your board you can get a 1 Gig Athlon at 200 mhz and more PC133 memory.

If your looking at DDR. I'd suggest waiting until the A7V266 comes out. Then get 1.3 Ghz Athlon 266 and 512 MB PC2100 memory from Crucial.

i still have a 3 1/2 year old 2 speed cd-rw (one of the first to come out) and i dont mind it. works just as well as any new one but a lot slower.

whats this "upgrade" from a T-Bird 800 to a Duron 900? thats an inferior processor and will probably be slower or the same as his tbird.

also i dont think it is worth it to get another hdd and a controller card for RAID on a gaming machine.

i dont think u need to upgrade yet. get a new vid card and more ram and that will last u well into the end of this year when palomino and northwood will be out.

The reason why I am getting of most of my components of my system (T-Bird 800, A7V Mobo, Case Etc, etc...) is because I am giving the components to my brother so he can build a computer, he has some parts from older systems already so I am giving him the parts that I currently have the he needs to buying new parts for myslef.

This is what I have right now to build my new system.
A7V133 Mobo
256mb PC133 RAM
v5 5500 (I know, it "sux" but it works for now)
SBLive! (Going to sell it and get a Santa Cruz)
Network Card, CD-Writer, Monitor, etc.


So what I need is a casem hard drive and CPU. Although like I stated in one of my earlier posts if DDR is really the way to go I can sell the A7V133 and the 256mb chip and go DDR. But that does take time and effort. And I would be losing a little bit of money if I sold the A7V133 and the 256mb chip even though they are both pretty much new.
