this really needed to be a ds title
new animal crossing ? whats animal crossing ??
I'm probably going to get it for my daughter. Never actually thought of playing it myself. I don't see the appeal, but I haven't actually tried the series.
Animal Crossing is a Nintendo franchise where you move into a town inhabited by anthromorphic animals and spend the rest of your time there doing random things. Its a very relaxed game with few actual goals, but it is a ton of fun if you have other people playing as well. There is randomness that goes into the game like what kind of fruits grow in your town and what items get stocked at the store, and there are player-made outfits and flags and such that can also be shared. Everything moves at real time and there are events that occur on specific days and at specific times, etc.
Its a very chill game. It isn't something you can play for hours on end, but at the same time its a game you will sometimes want to just wander around in for a while doing nothing.
huh, thanks for the info...i'll look into it, since I'm a comfort junkie.
I might give it a shot. ARe you getting the the wii speak unit for it?
The Wii speak thing would be cool if you could use it for Smash Brothers.
Reminds me too much of My Sims for the Wii - my daughter was bored of that pretty quick. Looking to pick up Rockband for $99 from Buy.com I think.
(EDIT: Amazon)
Been waiting for this game. Haven't played Animal crossing since the gamecube one, and I only played that one for a week or so. I'm sure I'll get bored with this one too (doesn't look much different), but it should be fun for a while. See you online maybe? Maybe...I don't know how it works online.
I didn't like the Gamecube one at all, but the DS version with its online interactivity had me hooked for months. I'm sorry to say I sold the game, because it looks like you can even import your guy over from that one in City Folk :(
But yeah, online! That is the exact reason why I'm checking in with other people before I dive in.
How extensive is the online mode? Is it just checking out other people's towns or can you work together or anything like that?
The IGN review said it was more of a rehash than a true sequel. That looks to be the case. Hope the animal crossing folks don't think I'm a weirdo cause I'll be playing at 2-3 am most of the time most likely :) - I'll have to beg Tom Nook for crack and go around hassling other town folk. Probably not the best game to play at 3am, doesn't seem like there would be much to do in the game in the middle of the night but I dunno.
Bought it today for the wife and kid. She is currently transferring all her stuff from the DS. I don't get the appeal, but they seem to like it.
After reading the reviews I'll probably skip this. I never could get into the DS game and this sounds like the exact some thing with a few new features.
The online interaction really boils down to hanging out in each others towns and using the remote flora and fauna to expand your own needs. You can also talk to the residents in your friend's town and they will remember you and ask things of you, sometimes they will ask what you think of your friend, and if they like you enough they might move out of your friend's town and into yours, where they will retain any items or information they got from that friend. If you have multiple friends in the game, this can create a sort of viral resident effect where down the line you can end up with a resident that was originally from a friend of a friend of a friend. Also if this is anything like the DS one, there will ocassionally be a synchronized event between two friends - one such example is that of a kitten that had become lost and you need to find her mom in a friend's town.
I ended up grabbing the game today without the mic. Its pretty much identical to the DS version but with more stuff. The city is a nice diversion and it looks like there's also an increased amount of activities to do in town. Your town's residents also appear to have a lot more dialogue this time around, and they're still as amusingly disturbed as always. My town has oranges. Why do I always get oranges? Someone else get this game and give me another fruit :D
