Wish I was a student for once. :(
Too bad it isn't for educators (teachers) as well.
My whole family are teachers, as is my girlfriend.
After I stopped teaching, I used to take a course (<$100) just to buy a full MSDN subscription for a few hundred dollars instead of a few thousand dollars.
James, there are many places that sell student & teacher discount software including Amazon.com at great prices.
Nice, I qualify. Looks like I will be purchasing 7 tonight.
Its nice being a student. Microsoft gives me a free copy through my CS department, ah the perks of being a student :) but that's still not a bad deal either.
lol I get Windows 7 free as well now that I'm a student too. Too bad I still don't want it.
I got Windows 7 for free for going to a launch event.
Then again, MS makes most of its money from the people we work for, not us.
Cool, thanks for the link.
Does anyone know if you can use the download to burn an bootable disk? I want to be able to create a boot disk so I can install a fresh copy on a machine (I have a valid Vista disk + key).
One can do a clean install even if it is an upgrade version.
They give you an option for a complete install if you have XP. It will not upgrade from XP, you must have vista to do an upgrade. Otherwise just do a fresh install and verify you have a previous version of windows. Pretty straight forward. I think they give you the ISO.
If anyone did this, place confirm that you get an ISO and not some kind of .exe/setup bundle.
neat..they also have the premium version for a few bucks more.
EDIT: Ahh...but you still have to have a valid Windows O installed even if you do a clean install. Blah. I might go for this if I can use the product key with a non-upgrade install copy.
If you click the 'I need to connect to my college network' thingy, you can get 7 Pro. :)
I was pretty dissapointed that my school was not on the list for the $30 version, but when I got to school today I found out within a week we will be able to get the full version of Win 7 Pro 32bit and 64 bit, (imagine same disk) for free, sweet.
So seeing as how I've never messed with an upgrade version before, do I actually need to install my previous copy of XP before trying to install this copy of Win 7, or will Win 7 ask fro my XP key during a clean install.
If its teh later, I have no problems doing that since all it means is keeping another key on hand.
Former RPI student.... I used @alumn.rpi.edu...and it took it!!! LOL :D
Looks like downloads are ready. might wait till my dvd back-up is in. Otherwise I'll do it this weekend.
