By its design, you can't. Let me guess: Most of your cards, modems, etc. are using IRQ 9, right?Quote:

Try disabling the IRQ steering. Use device manager to disable it.
The system should assign separate IRQs by itself. (hopefully) https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/5.gif

Are you having any problems? If you're not, leave it alone! My Voodoo5, NIC, modem, and SB Live! are all on IRQ 9 and I'm not experiencing a single problem because of it.

This is Windows 2000. You can't reassign IRQs.Quote:

Yes I'm having problems because of it

Damn these MS articles! One article explains how you can't change IRQs. Another article hints at changing "hardware settings" which I guess includes IRQs, but it doesn't give the slightest hint HOW to change them.Quote:

I'm assuming you're having a conflict. Go to Device Manager and then right-click on the problem device and select "Properties." Click the Resource tab. Uncheck the box next to "Use automatic settings." Highlight the setting you wish to change and then click "Change Setting..."

The use automatic settings box is grayed out and i don't know how to make it to where i can uncheck it.
If nothing works you might try to put your cards in different slots. Check your mobomanual to see how the irq´s are assigned for the different slots on the mobo. It´s tricky but it may work
Good luck!

If you want to configure everything yourself, try disabling "Plug and Play OS" in your BIOS. This usually creates more headaches than solutions, though.

Nah, win2k always uses the same irqs for specific things regardless of the slot and the fact that the bios assigns totally different IRQs. I dont understand why they designed it that way.

Ok I've just gone through the same IRQ hell and it took me hours figuring out the best way to keep everything stable and in their correct settings.
This is a summary of a detailed article I read (dunno the link anymore sorry)
If you just did a clean install (I'm assuming you just did), then get ready to do it again unless you're very lucky and your IRQ settings move with your changes.
1) Move Soundblaster to PCI Slot 3
2) In Bios, turn PnP/OS Off. Set your PCI Slot IRQ to 5
3) Disable Legacy SB support if you don't run any DOS programs
4) Disable Power Management ACPI
5) Disable any serial or parallel ports if you don't use them.
Install Windows 2000
If you have a VIA chipset, put in the 4 in 1 Drivers. Then install all the MS Service packs, critical installs, security updates.
Then install all your other drivers for all your other peripherals one at a time saving the Soundblaster driver for NEXT to last. Last driver installed should be your video card drivers and then install the MS Via AGP Patch (VIA Chipsets only) over it. Go back to your BIOS and turn the ACPI back on if you want your computer to be able to Soft Off.
If you want to be extremely anal about your install, then you should install with only your video card attached at first and then add your other cards one at a time with the SB last.
------------------
Windows 2K Pro
Slot 1 PIII 700 @ 1001 (1.85V) / Soyo SY-6VCA VIA 133 Pro / 256 Micron Cas 2 PC 133
IBM 7200 14Gb / IBM 5200 10Gb / Plextor 16x10x40
Leadtek Geforce 2 Pro / SB Live! Value
Hmm, I may give it a shot, but not now. I'm at school and don't really like to get hardware out and about cause people don't know how much money they are holding. But when I go home for summer in about a month and I do another clean install I may give it a shot.Quote:

Looks like you´re right. Why is it so that we have less and less control over our own OS?Quote:

(Not really a question. I´m afraid I know the answer allready)

Well, if what that ms page said was true, it should be a lot better this way. Without PCI IRQ sharing, i'm pretty sure my PC would be conflicting anyways (i have an outboard IDE controller as well as the original one, an NIC, A SBLive, and an ISA modem, and of course, a Video card needing an IRQ).
