The Urge to OCu

Have any of you ever experienced the urge to go out and buy a new processor just to see how high you could OC?

It's weird, I feel like the system I've got right now could hit some really high speeds w/ a better chip. So instead of being happy with a pretty decent overclock, I've got this urge to go out and buy a new cpu just cuz I think I could go higher and it's the low quality of the CPU that's holding me back.

What do you do with all the old/new CPU's? Do you have a pile of them sitting around, or do you sell 'em off?

I'm planning on doing something similar, as soon as I get my KT7A, I'm going to buy 3-4 durons at defferent speeds and the one that OC's the most I'll keep and the others I'm ging to build systems for some friends and family.

Have you tried clamping the processor and using a high powered drill with a drill bit meant to make holes in metal?

A monosary bit and hammer drill will do it easy. It may take a while with a regular drill, use some WD-40 it will speed drilling up a fair bit.

about the key ring, i commented in the proper post, but a drill press would be the best thing, try to borrow one, or take it somewhere you can use one, make shure everything is firley clamped in place to stop things from skittering around, barring access to a press, go with a special bit. https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/5.gif

in this Tweaktown Article they tried to smash into a Pentium 75 using a drill. Those pieces of silicon are tough muthas, i'll tell ya. i think they ended up just taking a hammer and nail to it so that they could show it who's boss. granted, a hammer+nail won't give you a PERFECT hole, but you could glue the pieces back together and make a keyring that way https://www.sharkyforums.com/images/.../2005/06/6.gif

I've often wanted to buy a new chip just to see how far I could OC it. I still want to buy a celeron just to have gotten a good 533-1Ghz. It's the urge we're propelled by man.

Give them to my father or other relative. Or just keep them . Seti loves cpu cycles. Dad has 2 of my cast offs ( oops make that 3 ) currently .

My family gets my hand-me-downs too... just not at such a quick rate. I'd say about every 2-3 years I upgrade and somebody in the family gets my old system.
