You would have to connect it as a slave drive in order to recover the data. You could buy another hd, format and load the os onto that then connect your corrupted drive as slave. Boot up...

Winxp allows you to do a repair install off of the cd. Boot off the cd and follow directions. You don't have to disable the hd just make the cdrom you first boot and it should work just fine....

I would suggest you take all your cards out except the video and one stick of ram. See if that works. Also make sure the power switch on your case is ok and not disconnected from the mb.

I have the 3.8s and use aa 4x and af 4x. No problem setting anywhere I want. I believe you are not doing something correctly. I have had 3.3 3.5 and now 3.8 with no settings problem
