    comp wont boot??

    hey my friends comp wont boot. he just got some new ram and his comp freezes on booting after posting. he gets a blinking rectangle and cant type anything. the diagnostic leads are showing that an ide device isn't plugged in but they are plugged in and secure. specs are :

    epox 8kha+
    1900+xp
    256pc2100
    *2 cases......1 bounce

    AMD 3200+ barton 400mhz fsb
    DFI Lan PArty 2b mobo
    retail hsf( jet 7 on the way)
    512mb of ddr400

    120gig maxtor 7200rpm 8mb cache
    lite on 16x dvdrom
    lite on 52x32x32 cdrw
    creative audigy 1
    Logitech z-560s 400WATTS RMS!

    he just bought the ram 2day...the past ram he was using was bad(pc1600 instead of pc2100)...

    wont boot

    Umm

    Suggest that you remove ram chip. Reseat chip firmly, ensure that it snaps in slotly squarely.

    Try a different ram slot. Try a different chip.

    ok so he dropped it off and now i've been messin with it and i know now its an ide prob b/c i unplugged all ide devices and it post really fast like normal(used to hang). but now it wont boot from my win98 boot disk... i checked bios and its set to read all ide devices and floppy. so guys...now what?
