geforce TI4200 vs 9600pro vs 9600xt
For the life of me I can't find any core and memory speeds for the radeons. I found a core speed of 250mhz and a memory speed of 512 effective. They are all using 4 pipelines right? I think I found the 9600pro core to be 400mhz and the mem to be the same effective. But I think the bandwidth is larger for the 9600pro. So my question is, which is better? But I think the answer should also keep in mind that the radeon is still about $40-60 more than the 4200. Thanks!

The 9600pro, would be the better buy IMO, it is clocked at 400mhz core and 300(600) memory(be sure to not to get a powercolor 9600pro EZ or any other one that is clocked at 400 core and 200(400) memory. Of cource the 9600XT will be better then both the 9600pro and the 4200.

the performance gain of the 9600 series over the ti 4200 is worth the price difference. However, between the 9600pro and xt is another story. XT will be roughly $200, while a pro can be bought at $150 is $50 worth it?

Yet they aren't as good as your AIW 9700 pro... Since you got that, you might aswell go for the ti4200. or get a cheap card from ebay.

true, but I am looking to put together a nice system for my second residence. I like my AIW, but I want dual monitors for my next system.

9600xt=$180+
9600 pro=$130
ti4200=$70
Those are the prices I can get each card for. I do not wish to start a ti4200 vs. 9600 pro debate but I will tell you one thing and its my opinion: I am very happy with my ti4200 and theres no way id pay $130 for the 9600 pro! I dont care for aa/af and Id wait for all the good dx9 games to come out first.

If you expect to buy Half-Life 2 when it comes out, then the fact that the 9600XT comes with HL, a couple HL add-ons as well as a coupon for a free copy of HL2 makes it a good deal. Otherwise, I'd go with the 9600Pro's bang/buck.
A 4200 is a great value, but it's also a light weight card in a "nice system" by today's standards.

You will find yourself upgrading that TI4200 when games like D3 and HL2 come out unless you don't want any eye candy and don't mind playing at lower resolutions.

Zoom-Zoom!
If you can find a 9500pro, that would be better than the 9600pro.

I would say go for the 4200, its a great card and is a great price. But it really depends on what you want to spend, if 150 is your budget (and yoou want hl2) than go for xt as it will perform better for dx9 titles and I dont think you would want to upgrade again in a few months for doom/hl. Im replacing my old Geforce 2 Ultra with a 4200 as my friend will sell me his for 50 bucs... its a really nice card.

Also, I play games more like warcraft and diablo. I don't really like first person shooters and therefore will not be purchasing HL2 or DIII. The only first person shooter that I love is counterstrike. I play halo every once and a while, but on a computer screen my eyes bug me after too long.

4200s are still like 100+ brand new so I don't see why you wouldnt spend the few dollars more and get a 9600pro so your set for a few years, instead of upgrading the 4200 in a few months.

$100 for a new ti4200 is way too much. I paid $70 for mine on ebay and its a brand new in box abit siluro. Of course most of them are used but work just fine. You guys give used a bad name. why buy a new card it will just become "used" once you "use" it
