    $139 for a P4 2.4C, 256MB, 40GB HD from DELL!!!!

    http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...84#post2771884

Follow the instructions in the above thread, which will also link you to the deal from Dell .

Now - Considering the fact that you can't buy a 2.4C chip for $139, this is an amazing deal indeed.

I'm kinda in a dillema on what I should do, since my wife doesn't like spending money on computer parts...

I'd like to get this system just for the cpu, and throw it into my P4P800.
However, I'm concerned whether or not I'll be able to get the chip up to a speed while keeping my memory happy.

If I hit 3.6GHz with this chip (which seems on the high side), I can run the 3:2 cpu/mem divider on the memory, which will give me exactly 200MHz (400MHz DDR) - which will keep my Corsair XMS3200 happy.

However, if I don't hit that high, I'll be forced to run my memory at the same divider. I'll be happy if I hit 3.2GHz (266MHz fsb), which will translate to 355MHz DDR speed if I say with the 3:2 cpu/mem divider (266MHz option in the P4P800 bios).

My question is, with a 800MHz fsb chip in this board, what will my cpu/mem divider options be? Will I be limited to 1:1 (400MHz ddr) and 3:2 (266MHz ddr), or will I also have the option to run a 6:5 (333 ddr), which would allow me to rum my memory at a faster rate, if I can't hit such a high cpu speed? The manual doesn't really make this clear...

Currently with my 2.4B chip, I only have the 1:1 (266) and 4:5 (333) cpu/mem ratios available to me.

Thanks for any advice, and enjoy the deal while it lasts!

What The F?! I follow the link and read the directions, but nothing of what the guy says is on the site he links to. You can't even go down to a 2.4C; the lowest is a 2.6C. Can someone PLEASE clear this up for me? This seems like a REALLY good deal that I'd like to get in on. Thanks.

Yeah - sorry about that - the deal went dead shortly after I posted it here. Apparently, it got posted on fatwallet and a few other deals sites, and Dell took the deall off their site...

There were quite a few people who ordered these, and from what Ive been told, Dell will not honor any of the orders

Darn! I was pulling out the credit card as I was reading through the thread and the link was opening in another tab. Would have made a great x-mas present for the in-laws.

Has dell stated they wont honor them officially? I know they do quite good with honoring misprints/very good deals. They honored those hard drives couple weeks ago~

Actually it was a 200gig WD drive for $22.26 after the 200.00 in rebates that Dell pulled but decided to honor after all. I cancelled mine when they said it was a mistake but then they emailed me stating they would honor the rebates and I can still get one....which of course I did.

Oh if the deal on the 4600's go through...I ordered 2 of em and got confirmation and order numbers stating they'd ship on or before the 15th. Got both with the minimum options 'cept I got the nvidia 5200 gf4 cards in both for 15 bucks xtra.

    $169.97 each after rebates

Actually the day I looked it was 180 for the 200gig hd, with 2x 200 dollar mail in rebates, would of brought it to -22 bucks.

The one you saw was just a bare drive and the rebates weren't valid for it. Dell put it on the site after pulling the retail/packaged drives and 2/$100.00 rebates off their site.
