    Motherboard & Video Card Problems

Hi, this is the first computer i've built and it's getting me angry. I bought an KT4V AMDXP 2400 and my computer is saying its a AMDXP 1800+ 1.50Ghz i set the FBS to 133. I have 256DDR Ram. Don't know why its showing wrong information. 2nd problem and the one that is really getting me angry is that i have a Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440 Video Card 64Mb AGP and it works ok for about 10-15 mins then all of a sudden BAM damn screen gets stuck you can't move the mouse and all you see are Red Lines that are up and accross the screen. any heolp would be greatly appreciated

    Hi:

You didn't say what memory you have or what value it is. More than likely you need your fsb set to 166. That will get your cpu reading correctly. A 2400 will read around 1800 or so without ocing. The video card is a 4xagp so make sure your bios is set up correctly, and that the card is seated properly and you should be ok.

You should be able to change it to 166 in advanced chipset settings. Something along the lines of that

Btw, you name leads me to believe you're a Tool fan, am I correct?

    Hi:

You need to set up your system bios correctly for your system to work.

You can't access the video card bios. All the settings have to be done in control panel, display, the settings are there.

That sounds like it could be heat related. Tell us about the cooling for you video card and as well about your case cooling.

Stock speed for your processor is 133x14.5=1928ghz. Set it up in bios.

You have to reset the cmos through a jumper on your motherboard.
    Read the manual

or by pressing the F or K key constantlly right after you turn on your system.

If all fails, and you don't find your manual. Just remove your battery from the mobo and leave it alone for 10min.

    Ah - the joys...

Seriously, you should really look up the multiplier of your CPU before you stick it into the motherboard. I know it's your first time and perhaps you expected it to work out... but a little bit of forethought goes a long way. Either that or a decent motherboard that does it for you.

Anyway - you're highly unlikely to have permanently broken your CPU - and also remember that since you've bought AMD that the XP ratings do not correspond to clock speed. Your 2400 will NOT run at 2.4 GHz, no matter what anyone says :-)
