Hummm! Can't get MOUSE to work on old Computer!

I have an old 386? with (win 95) and I can't get any mouse to work on it! I tried other mouses that work on other rigs but won't work on the old rig! The mouse has serial connection! The motherboard has onboard serial port AND it also has an add on ISA card that has serial and parallel ports! I have tried the mouse in both serial ports and no luck with either!

Win 95 will not find the mouse in either location! I have the drivers for the mouse installed in the system!

I know that I can put an add on usb card and use a USB mouse but I would like to keep this old rig as stock as possible!!!

Ya! LOL! I know its a waste of time but like I said I want to keep it running stock if possible! I use it for music in the shed and with cable its not too bad for a peek into Sharky!!! LOL! I have another hard drive to put into it to up grade it to win ME or XP !!!

Also make sure your BIOS has it's serial ports configured properly..

Like I said I just want to keep the oldies running! Besides the old rig is good enough for music and the web with cable running at 3500 down and 350 up!!! I have a seperate line for the garage and barn!!!

Do you have the correct mouse driver for the serial mice you were trying? Most of them seem to work with the old Microsoft generic mouse driver, but some (like a lot of Logitech models) needed an OEM driver to work correctly.

And about using USB... good luck! I've never seen an ISA USB card and you won't have any PCI slots if it's a 386!

Thanks!!! Yes I have the old Microsoft generic and I tried all the different drivers that I could find and I tried 3 different logitec (logitec is all I use) mouses. I'll look for an OEM driver tho!!!

He He!!! I cannot believe it! I can't read what mobo it is but it has 2 Intel chipsets on it and has "4" pci slots, 3 ISA slots and a brown slot (doesn't look like an AGP slot) at the other end of the mobo! I know its a 386 and I have a ethernet card working in one of the PCI slots!>>>>>>>>>> STRANGE MOBO!!! LOL!

UT OH!!! MY BAD!!! Its a "586" running at 100 mhz!!!
The mobo is a American Megatron>>>1995!!!

"SKY DOG you are right"!!! I rechecked when you said that 386's didn't have PCI slots! My 386 & 486 DO NOT have PCI slots!!!

But still no mouse will work!!! I guess i'll just have to get a USB card!!!

Give it to TBird... He'll attempt to break 1k with it on 3DMark01 with a 'PCI' Ti-4200
