Cheap digital camera. Does it exists?
Is it possible to find one under a $100? A couple years a go I figured prices would go down and technology went up. In reality, it appears technology has gone up along with the prices.
Seriously, I just want a freaking digital camera that takes pictures. That's it.

I have too been looking for a good cheap digi cam and have yet to find one. Half.com and ebay are your best place to look, but you still have to spend at least 150 for a good one.

2 MP cameras are dropping in prices lately...
I bought one for my brother back in May for $200.
Now, you should start seeing them cheaper... I've been seeing Fuji 2650 2MP cameras going for about $100 on eBay, which tells me that the prices are dropping...

It's possible to find a used 2 megapixel one for around 100 bucks on ebay. May be a little more or less depending on brand, condition and if all the manuals, accessories, etc. come with it. 2 megapixels (what is the abbreviation for that anyway? lol) is good enough for taking pics of your girlfriend on vacation or posting shots of your cool modded case.

I got a cheapo cam and it was just too annoying to be any pleasure so took it back and got a Canon G2.
If you shop around though you might find an acceptable Sony or Fuji. Take a look at some of the review sites and see what you think.

I've had a Finepix 1300 for a few years. I was about to replace it with a Canon A300 and ended up with a Digital Rebel.

I'd keep an eye out for the canon powershot s200 on ebay. Look for a used one that still has a warranty. 2Megapixels is good enough to print an 8x10 that looks sharp. Hope this helps.

Oh... and if you can, find a cam that has rechargeable lithium batteries. Trust me, a digi cam with double A's doesn't get much of a lifespan when you like using the lcd display (from personal experience.)

Mine uses the BP-511 batteries. I got an extended 1500mAh and the standard 1100mAh one. So far I've only used the 1500mAh one. I've taken 200 pictures over the last 5 days and it still says battery life is at full. Even after having to connect it directly to the computer yesterday to transfer pictures, which took about 20 minutes for 200MB (the card reader was a lot faster but it has already stopped working).

If you don't mind stretching it to just short than $200, then the Nikon Coolpix 2100 is you're little sucka. Only 2MP's, but the amount of settings you can screw around with is quite nice, and the pictures are quite nice. Very small, too.
Not to mention that Lithium batteries last FOREVER with this thing. It took me 3-4 weeks to drain one pack.

If you're using rechargeable NiMH AA's, you should get decent life out of your batteries.

The max I see for AA's on the review sites is about 200 minutes. The BP-511 cameras are over 450 minutes. Plus you do not get the initial drain with the Li-Ion batteries. Nimh batteries lose like 20% the first day without even being used. The Li-Ion rechargables are more like 0.3%.
