That would be so sweet especially if they took the original elements of the first Tie Fighter. The cool thing about the original was it has a somewhat of a storyline as well. Thats what I didnt really like about X-Wing VS Tie Fighter was that all the single player missions didnt follow any storyline or anything and were pretty much isolated. It would also be cool if they took some of the Tie's like the Tie Advanced and the Defender from the original and incorperated them as well. Still I hope Lucasarts will in the near future think about revitalising this classic game because the original Tie Fighter rocked and was and still is proably my favorite game of all time.

Why can't some guys get together and mod one of these flight sims instead of doing another half-life mod?

I was searching for topics on the Nvidia shield and came across this topic, I initially I didn't realise the age of the topic and for a brief moment hoped a sequel had been announced but sadly not. I guess there's no chance of a mod ever being released as it would get pulled for copyright I'd expect.

I think what was particularly impressive about Tie Fighter as it's the sort of game that relied on decent graphics but despite that it was still an incredible game despite the very basic graphics it had.(I realise they were advanced at the time but they were still basic) The storyline was superb and it did such a great job of simulating something that doesn't even exist, it was quite a thrill at times risking just a few more shots at your target instead of putting power into the shields or engines to escape. The capital ships were awesome as well as they engaged each with brutal broadsides as they hosed each other down turbolaser fire.

We actually did get a new Tempest recently, but it's a Vita exclusive and doesn't have a wheel attachment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IPrrUql9vU

Nintendo DS got a wheel attachment with an Arkanoid game late in its life cycle. It looked pretty cool:
