just picked up the logitech x220's

needed a pair of speakers for my secondary machine, so i moved my old labtec spin 70's over to that machine and picked up the x220's.

so far i'm pretty impressed. nice clean highs, although when you really crank them up really loud they seem to lose a bit of their accuracy. I don't usually crank my pc speakers though, i'll switch over to my HT speakers, so no biggie for me. the bass is phenominal IMO, at least for coming from a rather small sub. it's clean, tight, and responsive, and i haven't got it to noticably distort or rattle the enclosure at all. there is virtually no hiss from the satellites, which is always comforting.

the only thing they seem to be lacking is a good lower-midrange. that could just be me though, be because i've been listening to a pair or pretty poor speakers for the past few years, which were nothing but midrange, but IMO it sounds a little thin in that range, nonetheless.

also, and this is a rather odd observance which i probably wouldn't comment on if it wasn't so profound, but the subwoofer smells like a dirty sock REAL BAD hopefully it'll go away...

but yeah, overall, they're definately a good buy for the $40-50 range.

As a very recent buyer of the awesome Z-640, I can attest to Logitech's budget-mid speakers. I'm hearing sound, deep bass, which I could not pick up on my old Creative 5300 (Yep, I've decided that it's a POS! ) The Logitech's great for gaming! Funny thing is , when someone mentions Logitech, speakers ain't the first things that pop into my mind - I'd be thinking MX700, k/b, cordless k/b and so forth.

Still waiting for mine (well, more like my friend's). Gonna pick it up tomorrow. Hope I don't have the smelly sock sub. Could it be the glue?

Could be, or even the cabinet materials or the driver materials.

One a side note, sometimes brand new books smell like poo. Maybe it's recycled paper? j/k

dunno what it is/was, but it faded pretty quickly over the past couple of days, so you should be fine, even if you do get a smelly sock sub

I'd check, it certainly would make interesting acoustic material. LOL!

Just got the speakers from newegg.com but haven't tried them yet. Hoping they're solid. I'll try hooking them up to my Gamecube for some Viewtiful Joe.

Well, I tried out the X-220s. The bass is weaker than I had expected and on certain songs, more plastic'ish sounding than I had hoped other than that, the bass is not bad. The highs are quite a bit better than the Z-340s though. It's a lot less muddy sounding.

They're actually not as ugly in real life also. Their box reminded me of Xboxes. They have this green X on the top. Think they're trying to promote this as a console speaker system? They do have all the adapters for such a setup. The grill is actually cloth. It had looked very metallic in the pictures.

Most importantly, I did not smell socks.

And those are my first impressions.

Not exactly enthusiastic about anything. No fun at all. She's just glad she has a faster computer now.

Dude, if their is no sock smell...I would demand an RMA.

The sock smell is part of the experience, could be a sign of greatness that you are now lacking.

    Code:
    RMA Invoice # 5464f5d46s
    ...

    Reason:
    Lack of sock smell.
