    XP and script mapping printers

Has any one added any XP systems to an NT domain yet?

The problem I have is with printer scripts hanging. User groups have scripts that map network printers. But it looks like it takes Admin rights to set up a printer in XP. So the user scripts hang. If I manually install the drivers, then the scripts will run.

Anyone know of a work around that will not involve touching 90 systems across the whole state?

I've had plenty of XP systems on an NT domain, but didn't script printer installations on 'em.

    (Sorry!)

It’s starting to look like it can’t be done. Which sucks! AD was supposed to be deployed this month, but politics will roll it back a few months, so it’s NT for the near future. And we have 60 roaming lap tops ready to deploy, I hope they learn to like the portable printers. I don’t think they will be getting network printer mappings.

Why can't you map the printer in a login script - even if it is temporary 'til you get AD.?

XP requires Admin rights to install print drivers. So the first time the script runs, the drivers should install. After that it just maps, unless the user is a a new location (we have 27 offices) But it hangs because the user can't install print drivers.

As a temporary measure I'd install print drivers throughout your network. I know it's ugly, but that's the only way to do it. It is better than those portable printers.
