Yes, I'm pointing fingers at you Colossus!

Well, I didn't want to do it this soon, but with the 9800np disappearing fast, I went ahead and bought one. Circiute City had them on for $249, which was the same as Newegg and many of the other vendors, and since they had it in stock, I bought it online for in-store pickup. Will have that bugger in my system tonight, and then we'll see how it all goes.

LOL! When I saw the title of the thread, I almost fell over 'cause I thought you were coming clean with reasons why C man was banned - to silent all the rumors flying about here. Almost had a cardiac arrest there!

PS : Un4given, hope you get a great card and hope it OCs like a bad mutha!

let us know what the ram chips are lookin' like.

I always liked when Best Buy and Circuit City offered great deals on good graphic cards.

I remember last february when they were offering retail 9700 Pro's for $299, I thought I was in heaven.

It's a BBA so I suspect it will likely have the Samsung 3.3ns chips, but I will update once I get the card.

Why did some of the old 9700pro's and even some of the old 9700 NON pro's have 2.8ns samsung ram chips but the 9800 pros/non pros only have 3.3ns samsung at best? Or am I wrong? Do some of the 9800 pro's have 2.8ns ram ?

good luck. I hope its samsung ram too, but even if its infineon, the core matters quite a bit more anyway. 400MHz is considered a very nice overclock for a non pro, since many of the non pros in theory are those that didnt make pro speeds, but ati's yields are good enough that they just slip some pro cores as non pros and run em at lower voltages, hence the bios flash to pro

That would be great if it does. Mine came with the Infineon, but the core overclocks like mad. Either way I think you'll be happy with the performance gains.

I'm definitely going to try o/c, but this will still be a huge jump up from what I have now. As good as this Ti4400 has been, I just want to able to turn on AA/AF and not have BF1942 and similar games look like a slide show. That includes my crossed fingers to the MP update for Unreal II.

It's hard to understand just how superior the performance of a 9800 is over a NV ti series card until you have one in your PC. I love my 9700np.
