That is a great shot, slair!

IMO monochrome photography is the most dramatic.
I used to shoot black & white exclusively with both 35mm and 220 formats.
Now days the cost is just too much even with your own C-41 lab.
A digital camera and decent photo editing software is the best way for aspiring photographers to learn.

    Nice composition and effect Slair!

Thanks for the compliment Liger. Actually 95% of my photo's don't use Photoshop and are straight from the camera. There are 4 photo's that use the effect called HDR and photoshop. (they're the 4 in a row starting here where the color is almost fake looking; all others are right out of the camera with no editting) The key for color is good lighting and proper exposure. My camera's amazing color also doesn't hurt.

Anyone can get into Photography and the highend equipment isn't required to get great pictures. Creativity and the photographer account for so much. A normal digital point and shoot camera is all you need. (some Canon's give you access to all the custom settings such as Aperture (AV), Shutter (TV) and Manual (M) mode. My secret is too take alot of pictures at different angles and orientations. You'll have a higher chance of getting some cool "keepers" and learn what looks best. I often go to these sites to learn more about the art.

I recently picked up an Olympus E510. http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/E510/E510A.HTM I haven't had much time to play with it yet, but I did fool around with taking some shots of my fish tank. Here's a shot of my red eyed tetras.

Shot with a Nikon D80 outfit DSLR. I got it for Christmas, still have no real idea what I'm doing yet. Everything shot in either Automatic or Portrait mode, except for the Christmas lights. That's me just screwing around.

Can anyone give any pointers on the best software to compress huge DSLR images? I've been using JASC Paint Shop Pro, but there are no settings for quality-size when converting/compressing to JPEG.

If you want quality keep them in the native RAW format. When you go to .jpeg you ALWAYS lose quality. The next format down from RAW would be .tiff. That stays closer to the original shot than a .jpeg would.

Really pleased with this one, since it was shot through a very dirty window pane.
