    Norton Ghost 2003 on SATA system

    Ive been using Norton Ghost 2003 for years, it has always worked like a dream for me with PATA drive backups. With SATA drives however, its a different story. It will hang before the DOS process starts. I have tried Ghost 12 and another one I cant remember and it wasn't as easy to backup an entire drive to bootable DVDRs as 2003 was, and I had other problems with it I cannot remember. Has anyone solved this issue, or is there a newer one that supports SATA and will run virtually identical to version 2003 in terms of its ease of use?

    I read that Acronis images the drive within Windows. Might that cause problems? Ghost 2003 does it within dos, I always figured that was the most reliable way to do it. Ive been reading up on the ghost 2003 issue and found some command line switches that are supposed to make it work correctly with sata (-noide, -fni) but im not having much luck.

    Acronis can create backups in Windows or DOS.

    Simply create a Bootable Recovery Disc with Acronis and create and validate your image before booting to Windows.

    It doesn't get any easier than that.

    use Ghost 2003 with SATA drives.

    two times it would boot to dos and my patition got killed and I lost all my data/os. good thing those were only non mission critical systems. (winxp pro sp2)

    use I switched over to ARchonis 10 and it works great for the past 2 years.
    - FAST (it took about 15-20 min to backup my OS, wheres ghost took like 1.3 hours. both using compression with about same size file at the end)
    - Works inside windows. no need to reboot.
