    Laptop question

I was just wondering if the sole reason, for not seeing a laptop running @3 + ghz is battery life. Are there any other issues besides?

    Maybe heat issue?

Yes there is. In laptops, hardware manufacturers typically speedstep processors.

Some operating systems speedstep the processor even further. For instance 3Ghz processors can be speedstepped in XP for instance to 800Mhz.

You nailed it - battery life, and heat.

But more importantly, why do you need to run a laptop CPU at 3.0Ghz? What can 3.0Ghz do that a 2.5Ghz or 2.0Ghz CPU cannot?

Yeah, heat & battery life are two nemesis of a laptop in my book...

I am someone who likes to take my gaming on the road. I am a 29 year old working professional that travels for work, and likes to play PC games in hotel rooms at night when I am alone. I am not a kid.

And for gaming, the GPU has an astronomically higher impact on gaming performance than CPU speeds. If I were looking for a laptop that could game, I would pay attention to the GPU - the CPU is largely irrelevant at that point.

Perhaps you misunderstood my mention of road and kids. What I actually had in mind was, parents on a long road trip, kids on the back seat yelling.
