A note:
Since switching to 64-bit java, the minecraft shortcut in Steam has been borked. Not only does it not show you in game, it doesn't allow the Steam Community overlay while playing. Apparently this is a known issue without a very clear fix. 32-bit java doesn't cause an issue, but 64-bit somehow screws up the handoff from the minecraft.exe.
Anyway, long story short, if you actually want to show up as playing minecraft, try this:
1. Add minecraft as normal.
2. Go into the properties screen
3. In the target box, mod it to look something like this:
Code:
"C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe" -Xmx4096M -Xms512M -cp D:\James\Downloads\Minecraft.exe net.minecraft.LauncherFrame
4. Weep at the kludge you just had to do.
Ultimately this makes Steam think you are still in-game after the handoff from the .exe to the .jar.
Personal preference if it is worth it or not, but I got tired of it being broken and went to find a fix.

2. It launches a cmd line window to run the java to do this. So when you launch minecraft, you will see a cmd window pop up, and then Minecraft will launch.
If you use javaw.exe instead of java.exe, the cmd window won't open.

Edited my post to fix that. Nice find!
*Edit: Seems the only way to get out of the Steam overlay from minecraft is hitting ESC instead of Shift+TAB.

Thanks to linoleum's donation of large amounts of wood and cobblestone, I finished my building much more quickly than originally planned.
We have also started a skybridge to the main apartments/base.

Heh, fair enough. It's kind of amusing, because the building was originally 21 floors, now it is 42. Everything above the floor with the tree farm is new since the max height increase. (Hard to believe that was the top of my building previously!)

Bingo, that building is awesome, but I'm just blown away by the time it took.

Linoleum,
The auto-farming melon farm is ready on floor 11. It just needs ~4 more buckets of water, and to be tilled/planted.

If anyone is ever near Jamestown and the big castle there, I built a massive melon farm under the castle, adjacent to (and below) the chest room (which is the basement). Never needs to be tilled/planted/etc, and it's on a timer. You could probably get several slots full of melon in one trip there.
