I have MS office 2010 starter. On the right side of MS word, there is this giant advertising pane. How do I get rid of it?

Did you at least GOOGLE this?
Odds are you didn't find anything except to either get a paid version or switch to Open Office.

There is no way to remove or hide the advertising block and keep the software functional.
The starter edition is not like a normal program. It is started from an obscured file in the virtualization folder.
-
Would using a hosts file work? If it did, it would leave a big empty space, but no ad -- it works on almost everything for me, but never tried it on your issue -- I use a paid version of Office 2010 because it is too useful to me not to.

I posit that a lack of communication will not only block downloads of new advertising. It will cause the software to either hang or exit because an active internet connection is one of basic requirements.

actually I was hoping someone would be able to tell me of a tweak that might remove the ads.

Even Microsoft states that turning off ads cannot be done.
Open Office can replace Starter Edition, but does not have the functionality of the full MS Office 2010 Suite.
-
Yeah.
the basic answer is there is one way to remove the ads, and that is pay for a full version of Office 2010.

Master of the obvious
Maybe he could apply a sticker or series of Post-it notes to obscure the ads. Worked for me!

I recall that hardware mod you made. IIRC you only got it to work on banner ads. Isn't there an image of your work here someplace?

That's the case for most trial version software and it makes sense to be difficult to remove the ads through other means.
