getting office 2010 at an advertised price

this laptop has office 2010 starter. There are these ads on the lower right side of word that shows office 2010 is 79.95 for students. When you click on the "buy now" it takes you to http://spe.atdmt.com/images/pixel.gif which is a blank page. Their website lists a higher price 119.95. Would you argue with them to get the 40.04 lower price because of the false advertising?

Is it false advertising or did some human make a mistake? Do they have any verbage of their site about not being held responsible for boo boos?

I'll check it. Its on Word 2010 starter preinstalled, so it's their software thus their advertising. It's one of the ads on the lower right bottom corner that I cant get rid of.

Those ads come from an ad server and are not embedded in the software or pre-loaded onto the machine.

Since you are a student, there are many places such as school bookstores that sell deeply discounted software.

But I'm getting them while my computer is DISCONNECTED from the internet.

How much did you pay and how long ago? I'm sure you understand how prices can change daily.

AFAIK the software refreshes the advertising when a connection is available.

You paid what you paid... Surely this isn't the first time you've seen prices go down after you bought something

    its not that.

I recently saw these advertisements while I was typing on the laptop on the train. I have no internet then. Word Starter gave me the ad that says 79.95 for office 2010 for students. The link that says "click here" gives me the bad link (when I try while on the web).

The new listed price is 119.95 on MS's website. (40$ HIGHER) then the original advertised price - not LOWER....

What is the point of this thread again? And you didn't mention what YOU paid....

Getting Office directly from Microsoft isn't the same as getting it through a PC maker. PC Makers purchase tens of thousands of copies at a time and get a bulk discounts.

I have an email ad from Dell from last week where they were selling a regular Home and Student eddition for $79.00 which be a much better deal then the starter eddition...

Office 2010 Starter is freeware offered only on new machines distributed by PC makers.
The application intermittently connects to the internet when a connection is available.
It doesn't matter that you didn't have an internet connection at a given moment because the advertising is served and cached when a connection is available. The application resides in the MS Virtualization handler. It is unlike any other executable.

If you want to purchase an academic version at student prices, just do it. There are several offerings for $80 or less.

Trying to make sense from online ads. it is "Silly" at best.

This is an online store that most enthusiast buy from. Their prices are usually very good.

Currently, Microsoft Office 2010 Home & Student 3-User is $124 free ship.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116856

This is what search found, I have no idea if it is a good, bad, legit, or any thing else.

They claim $79.99 for an open box. But they are Out of stock.

In general the current on line price is above $100.

Microsoft sells the Office Professional Academic 2010 for $99.95

    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/...ctID.229301900

Some University academic stores might sell it for less to their student.

This is the price picture today Sat. Aug. 13 8:27 PM.

Tomorrow ??? Even the All Mighty does not know.
