Screen blacks out

This is happening primarily when watching movies, but does when using emails, etc. The sound continues as normal. I thought it was coming from static electricity buildup, but again, not always.

I am using an HP 17" Laptop

Is there a system or technique to 're-light' the screen? Hitting the escape button does not work and the only thing I have been able to do is to press the power button to shut off the computer, then restart the computer and click the "Start Windows Normally" portal, link or whatever you call it.

Check your battery and power settings. It sounds like your computer is going to sleep mode or the like.
