FTP Server Failure
I have Core FTP server installed on this system (old P-4 2.8 GHz, Win XP et al) and up to a week ago it was working fine. I use it to retrieve videos from my IP security camera. A few days ago I experimented with using an FTP client on my netbook (Filezilla) to access this server. It has not worked properly (that server and client combination.) I can logon to the server with the netbook and access file structures. When I attempt to upload, a directory on the server will be created that almost matches the one I want to access and the files I try to upload will be deposited there. For example I logged onto "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents" and on the server was created a directory named like "ocuments and Settings\Owner\My Documents". You can see it trimmed a few characters from the name of the new folder. (Note this is only with the client, not the camera. It has different problems.) I suppose there are protected folders, but it seems every one I try to use causes this to happen. Also the IP camera used to work fine, but now it won't leave the video files. I checked the Core FTP logs and saw the logon proceeded as usual and MKD command failed, so the upload did not proceed.
This has been going on since 10-4-2013, about a week ago. The only event I can recall is that about 10-2-2013 my trusty D-Link router failed and I replaced it with a Netgear cheapy. In a fit if tiredness and confusion I also installed some app from Netgear called "Genie". I have since uninstalled that.

Notice the screwy directory names? These appeared without my effort when I tried to logon to or upload to the real directories.
Well that's quite a pickle. Any ideas how to fix this?

Do you still have issues connecting from your old PC or just the netbook? Also did you enable ports on your old router?

The only machines I've attempted to connect with are the netbook and the IP camera. Yes- I have a port open. In fact I am able to logon to the server with either the netbook (over the Internet) or the IP camera (over the LAN). When the camera attempts to make a new folder, the process fails. When I try to access a folder or make a new folder with the netbook, it also fails, often producing a folder with a screwy name a few characters off from the actual one, and often writing files there. I'm not certain the two are connected, but they did occur at once and both involve FTP clients and servers.
