Smile Help with Upgrading My GPU

    Hello

I'm considering upgrading my GPU for better gaming performance but I'm unsure about compatibility with my current setup.

I have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 and my motherboard is an ASUS ROG Strix B450-F Gaming. My power supply is 650W. I'm looking at the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 and would like to know if it would be a good fit for my system. I have checked https://www.sharkyforums.com/forumdi...dware-Softwaresfmc guide but still need help.

Additionally; what kind of performance increase can I expect for gaming at 1080p resolution?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you !

Hi, sorry for the tardy response, been busy with life ....and games, as for what to expect, seeing you have a B450 mobo, it now boils down to whethereyou have a Ryzen 1xxx, 2xxx, 3xxx or 5xxx series CPU, the first two are kinda showing their age in modern gaming, while the latter two are still pretty good. If you have a Ryzen R5 2600X and higher, its still good enough, just don't expect sky high framerate, okay?

So, first part hinges on your CPU, second part is your GPU, while an RTX 3060 would certainly improve gaming performance, it really depends on the game (or more precisely, the game engine used). Some games that are highly dependent on GPU prowess, you would see and improve in framerate improvement, and perhaps at higher graphics setting too. While other games, usually online shooters like Fornite and Valorant, might require a faster CPU for improved framerate. That is not to say you won't see an improvement in framerate, it might be negligible considering the GPU jump from a GTX 1060 to an RTX 3060.

How much will the RTX 3060 cost you? I can find an RTX 4060 8GB at similar pricing, NOT at the lower range of RTX 3060 pricing, more like in the middle. The RTX 4060 is a fair bit faster than the RTX 3060, and uses less power at the same time. An alternative would be the RX 6700 10GB at 250USD:

It outperforms the RTX 3060 (though it consumes about as much power) and is closer to the RTX 4060 in rasterize gaming, just throwing this and the RTX 4060 out there as alternatives, up to you to decide.
