    2100+ w00t! but need cooling help...

    i just put in my 2100+ tbred, and i'm up to 173fsb, stock voltage (with kt333 mobo and PC2100 ram at turbo settings, w00t ). anything higher and i get a logon error and windows reboots. i have no doubt that with an nf2 mobo and some better ram (and better cooling), this CPU will do at least 2.5Ghz or higher.

    thing is, as i indicated my temps are kind of high. i'm getting about 40-42C idle (web surfing, etc.), and into the mid 50s under load. it's normal for the 8k3a+ to report temps slightly higher than most other mobos, but that still is a big jump from my 1600+ pal, which ran 10C cooler. aren't the tbreds supposed to be cooler than the pals, or do i have that backwards?

    i also thought this AX-7 would be plenty enough heatsink until i got into the 180-200fsb range with higher voltages, but maybe i need something else. any recommendations? or maybe just a stronger fan than this enermax adjustable would do it, which max puts out about 39-40CFM, i think. the other thing is that when i was installing the #&%@! heatsink i couldn't get it on there easily and had to take it up a couple of times and move it around a little. maybe i smeared too much AS3 off the processor?

    i'd really like to get temperatures down a little before running anything like prime95 for any length of time. any suggestions? what do you think i should do?

    thanks, i've used that guide before, it is the best. i re-did the HS just to be sure and i'm getting basically the same temps (maybe 1C cooler), so i guess it was okay after all. i might have to invest in the SLK-800, but that fan looks scary, frankly.

    i know it's adjustable, but just how loud is it at good cooling speeds? anyone have a noise comparison between the thermaltake 2 and, for example: sunon high or super high output, panaflo ultra, delta high output, or any other fan you like? (vantec tornado is out 55dB, no way)

    I use the SF2 on my other rig and its silent up to about 2000rpm and barely noticeable up to about 2700rpm. Here's the min/max values:
    1300rpm = 20cfm
    4800rpm = 75cfm
    1300rpm = 17dba
    4800rpm = 48dba
