i notice no difference between ccms2 at an even focus of 0, and stereo surround. does anyone else notice this?

nope, there is no difference. i just tried it. again. switched it back and fourth a few times. i dont notice a change.

I find the difference is. CMSS2 adds a slight midbass boost over Stereo Surround. You hear more thumpiness. It also draws more attention to the subwoofer on my Z560's. (muddies bass a bit)

my sub doesn't produce muddy bass
maybe that's why i couldn't tell for the brief time i was testing.

If it's sloppy, ill-defined, boomy bass, then yes it's a bad thing. (think $300 Sony mini system)
Deep and quick bass is the way to go! Aka. Your Ultra's sub.
