Painting my monitor...

How hard will it be to paint my monitor black (it is white). I am thinking about getting a new computer case that is black, and I don't want my monitor to be white. How hard is it to paint it black? Does it take a lot of skill? Any precautions? Thanks.

i remember TAZTG knew how to do it, cuz he painted his monitor blue i think you just take off the outer casing of the monitor and spray paint it. if the outer case isn't removeable, you'll have to take many things into consideration before painting it, like covering up all ventilation slots that dissipate and heat emmited from the monitor. be VERY careful. talk to TAZTG before doing anything like that, you'll need his words of advice

Words of Advice, hopefully this will help.
Steps to paint Monitor.
1) I prepped my monitor by taping the actual monitor surface. I used a exacto knife to trim the excess tape away. I put 3 layers of tape down crisscrossing them.
2) I put a towel down and turned monitor over onto it, then removed 6 screws that held the back onto the front. I also went ahead and removed the swivel. (NOTE: the innards of mine had alum cage around it protecting all the parts and ensuring nothing could touch them)
3) I took a plastic garbage bag and place over the cage and taped it real good. Didn't want to get paint on the inside parts etc. (Note: where the rear part connects to the front will be a small space try not to tape it like I did).
4) Finish prepping the front (Power Buttons, doors, other butoons) I used tape and vaseline so the paint wouldn't stick.
5) Lightly wet sanded rear and front part.

Ready to Paint now Put 2 coats of primer, 2 of paint and 2 of clearcoat. Put back together and show us PICS...

Here you can see the small space where the two sides go back together. I used a Sharpie to fill it in Blue doesn't look to bad, but I should have painted it. OOPS Learned the hard way.


I also taped up the INFO thingy in the back.

Yeah, thats a good idea. I should try it on an old 15" monitor I have. I have been wanting to get rid of that, but that would be a good test subject before I paint my 19 incher.

There is one thing you have to remember with monitors. They are all different and you have to take them apart differently. Practice is good... Good Luck and let us know how they turn out...

You going to pay shipping from Antwerp?? I think you could do it just take your time and make sure its prepped really good. Painting is the easy part prepping a monitor is the tricky part. The paint used is Dupli-Color Automotive Paint..
