    Question Hard disk doesn't respone during FORMATING: Very Wierd

    i m trying to reinstall windows 98 on my old system. the spec is 233mhz (overclocked), 96 MB RAM, 4mb Graphics card and all the usual. now when i start my computer using the windows 98 start up disk i m taken to dos prompt. where i FDISKed my hard disk. after that when i try to format it using the command A:\>format c: at the A: promt, it formats my hard disk for some time but than it stops at around 70%. i tried several time but no luck. plz help, what could be causing it to stop responding.

    first...try the format without the overclock...

    is it still doesn't work...then you HDD might be fecked...u might wanna do a low level format...depending on the drive manufacture you have...u'll have to go to their website and search to find a low level format utilty...

    maxtor and IBM both have low level format utilities at their websites...
