Geforce4 4200 2 275/500, how much higher?
I have an AOpen Geforce4 4200. I got it up to 275/500 with stock cooling last night, I tried some higher ones but was getting some pretty bad artifacts. How much higher will this card go? Should I push the memory speed all the way up then move to the cpu, or both at the same time?

Unlike a GF2, the GF4 4600 is very well balanced between Core and memory speeds at 300/650 in most current software while the 128MB 4200 at 250/444 starts leaning towards a lack of memory bandwidth. Ti4400 runs 275/550 and is still sightly memory lagged untill about 275/580.
You can check the coolers efficiency buy holding a finger to the PCB at the back of the GPU. If you can hold it there for 5 seconds its cool enough. If not it probaly has a poor cotanct and you might want to remove the cooler, clean off pad, sand it flat and refix with good thermal paste. That will help core overclocking.
Im not sure what the memory on that card is rated for. you can read that straight off the memory chips in most cases. look for a -45 or -4 which would denote 4.5ns(444MHz) or 4ns 500MHz rated ram.
Also the brand. Samsung,hynix etc.
Some of these cards with 4ns Hynix or samsung will make 600mhz with a bit of luck and a good voltage supply.Tho luck of the draw in getting four good modules is a major factor at 25% overspec.
Ram sinks will help if the ram runs warm.
There's no problem at all with clocking core and mem seperatly to any extent.

Thanks, I'll try the heat test, to see how she's running. Theres a 5-10 degree F increase in the system temp, so i think she's running pretty high.
The memory already has sinks on 'em, built into one big heat sink with a fan attached. All stock, and I'm sure i could get better. I'll see what I can do though, thanks. I got 9737 3dmarks, at 275/500, and I really wanna break 10,000 with it.

Crank that 1600+ up and give the video card some precious FSB MHz and you'll be worrying about breaking 12,000.
I'm trying to break 13,000 with my 4200... I'm getting closer, but oh so far away. I think I need to buy a good stick of PC3200 that's rated to CAS2... considering I've done the 12,850 @ cas2.5 and relaxed timings.
Until I get my CoolIT chiller, DDR3, and video cards for my 790 3 way SLI mobo...
• Q6600 @ 3.4GHz
• Skythe Infinity Heatsink w/ 120mm
• Asus P5E
• nVidia 8800GTS 512MB
• Samsung 245BW and Samsung 19" Widescreens
• 8GB (4x2GB) Corsair Dominator DDR2
• 3x 150GB Raptor RAID0 / 2x 1TB WD Black / 1x 750GB WD
• X-Fi Gamer
• Windows 7 Ultimate
• Rosewill 1050 Watt PSU
• Coolermaster ATCS 840 Case
• Sennheiser HMD-280 Pro (Headset)

Nice, that'd help out with a little friendly competition i have going on against a ti4600.
XPs are the same as TBirds right? They need to be unlocked...?

I bet you can get at least 145FSB. also Are your famular with O/C? If not you can PM and I get on aim so i can help you out
