USB 2.0 Pen Drive
Finally a version of these little USB memory drives that can deliver USB 2.0 speed. Notice at the bottom where it says that the USB 2.0 version is just $6 more: http://www.directron.com/pendrive256.html
Anybody know about any other brands of these USB pen-drive style devices that are also USB 2.0? I'm thinking about getting one of these...

OK then, I guess I may be the only one who even cares about this!

Heck, I think they're pretty neat... I suggested one to my friend who was looking for a nifty gadget.
Hehe, seeing this thread when you first posted it sparked my interest in it, but I never posted a reply. Better late than never. Happy holidays!

Not a must-have on my list, either, but I think it could be pretty convenient to have a couple hundred MB at the ready for any computer with an open USB port. I'd definitely rather bring this little thing around than zip disks.

I have one for my laptop. It works wonderfully.
For the record, I have yet to use my floppy with my laptop (almost 1 yr).
I use it all the time to exchange files with others.
The thing is, these are very slow. I doubt its USB 1.0 which is slowing it down. Writing especially seems to take forever.
USB 2.0 would be nice so you can run an application reasonably from it, but it won't be a giant selling point (IMHO).
I want an OS, not a hobby...
Theres nothing more pathetic then someone who wears non-matching socks on purpose.

Especially considering most of the computers people own already don't have USB 2.

Man With Nothing To Lose
I would love USB Pen Drives, but my reason for not using one is because USB ports are located in inconvinent places on most computers.
I would use this the most at school for file transfers but it is too inconvinent to pull out the tower case and stick the pen drive in.
Floppies are slow, and don't hold enough data. I love floppies, but for larger sized tasks I find them to be inadequete.

GO BENGALS!!!!!
These Pen Drives are practicle if you have to transfer files from work or school. It would be completely useless to me. My school has an FTP server in which I can access all of my files at home. Also, I would rather put data on a cd-r(w) or zip disk than a pen drive. Those pen drives could easily get lost.

...
When that is the case just use a USB Hub

Unfortunetly, I do not carry around a USB hub with me at all times. I would mainly want to use a USB pen drive around school.

Wow, this old thread...
Since I originally posted this question, several USB 2.0 pen drives have been released.
Patience leads to progress I guess..

Oh hey!
I bought this exact model. Found it on ebay for less than $63.
I don't really use it much, although it did come in very handywhen I was troubleshooting my laptop. I really don't use it much, and I could live without it, but it's nice to have around. I figure these will definitely replace Zip Disks within the next few years, but yes... they're not very practical since USB ports are in the back of most machines.
The new Dells all have a couple USB ports in the front and have USB 2.0. I guess these pen drives are just a little bit ahead of current hardware design.
