How do I make a VCD for viewing?
If I record something, where can I find instructions on making a vcd that will work for playback in my dvd player?

A program like Nero, or Easy CD Creator will do the trick. All the DVD player needs is a table of contents to play the movie, and those programs create it for you.

assuming the video is within the vcd specifications, and I know Nero will tell you whether or not your video file is vcd compliant or not.

yeah i had to use adobe premiere to make sure the video file was in right spec.. it must be a certain resolution and at a certain framerate...
i have a question regarding this.. do all DVD players play VCDs? i want to get this cheap "mintek" dvd player online for like $50 but it doesnt say anything about playing vcds.. it says it plays dvds, cdrs, mp3s, cds.. but nothing about vcds...

No, 'cause VCDs are encoded in mpeg1. DVD players are designed to read mpeg2. Support for mpeg1 is extra.

You can still get a DVD player that'll play VCD's for under $100 though. I got one for $70 that plays them. It's a memorex.
