Sim City 4 On My Rig?
I've read a lot of sort of conflicting opinions on what sort of a PC is required for Sim City 4 (other then the min. requirements). My question is basically what sort of playability I can expect out of this rig:
Athlon 1.2 (100FSB)
Asus A7V
256 MB Crucial
45GB Deskstar 75GXP
GeForce 2 Ultra
Windows XP Pro SP1
SB Live 5.1
I'd like to run it at 1280x1024 since thats the native resolution of my LCD. As cheap as it might be, I'm not going to run out and grab a 1700+, an ECS board and a Ti4200 or something. I was considering getting another 256 of RAM for Photoshop anyway, so that's the only possible upgrade I have in mind until I build an eniterly new rig sometime at the end of this year. Assume for now that I only use the current 256 MB.
Should I go out and drop 50 bucks on this game with the hope it'll play at 1280x1024? Also, does the version purchased at say a EB or Babbages have the bonus Transportation CD (not gonna sway my decision, but just curious).
Does anyone have recomendations or sugestions?
Thanks in advance!

Awesome.
You cant get the transportation cd anymore, that was a pre-order bonus.
And with that ram, I dont think its possible for you to run the game at that res.

even at 800x he will find it choppy... I know I was curious and wanted to test the amounts of ram...
I tried 128mbs.. 256... 512.. etc.. it was most stable at 512.. at hi res.

Transportation CD makes the game crash, Maxis said. Don't bother with it.
your system might be able to handle it at the rez, but expect it to be slow as hell.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll prolly pick it up regardless and run it at a lower, non-native resolution. Won't look that great, but the game itself should be fun. I buy maybe 2 or 3 games a year for my PC so I think I'll hold off on an upgrade until I really need it (I'm waiting for a crop of technologies to mature like Bluetooth, 802.11g, SMT (HT or DP), etc. since other then a couple of games, my PCs just fine).
Hopefully the online element is completed soon.
