Norton Ghost & Win2K/XP
Hoping somebody out there can give me a few pointers on this. I have Norton Ghost 2002 and Win2K (will be going to XP Pro soon) and would like to image/backup up my primary hard drive. The problem is that both my drives are formatted NTFS and Ghost seems to require at least one drive/partition be FAT32. (the partition the image is saved to). On top of that how do you even boot up Ghost with a boot disk when ms-dos doesn't recognize NTFS drives? If I could boot up Ghost, I think I could image directly to my CD-RW. Anyone have any experience with this situation?

Crash Test Dummy
To write a Ghost image to hard drive, you'll either need a local FAT32 partition to write to or a network share you can map from your DOS boot floppy. Ghost does support writing directly to CD-R, but I haven't personally used that method.
As for reading NTFS partitions, Ghost may not be able to write to them to save an image, but it can read them (and write them) while imaging.
If you don't have a FAT32 partition available and can't map a network share, then it looks like you'll have to try the CD-R option. Put your Ghost executable file on a boot floppy, power up the system, and let 'er rip.

If my memory serves me correctly, Ghost 2003 can write to NTFS, but I'm not Positive....

Crash Test Dummy
Apparently, Ghost 2003 does support writing to NTFS partitions, at least to some extent:

Thanks for all the help. I went ahead and tried the direct to cdr method (as i don't have a fat32 partition to use) and it seems to be working alright. If I had the 2003 version I guess I'd be okay, but since mine is 2002 I have to go this route. Oh well, thanks again..
