    Big Network

    Hey,
My local friends and I were wondering if it would be possible to create a network between our houses?
We live a few miles apart. Is there any way besides the internet, to make a network so we could share files faster?
What kind of stuff would it take, how much would it cost?
    Thanks for your help!

Well if you lived next door to each other or at least in the same neighborhood it might not be a big deal to run some CAT-5 cable between your houses. But since you do live a few miles apart, I think the Internet is the only (economical) way to go.

The most cost-effective method would be via the Internet if you both have broadband connections. You could set up a VPN so you would be on the same virtual network and access each others' network resources.

Another feasible option would be a wireless setup. Something like THIS would work if you've got a clear line-of-sight between your homes.
