Good LCD flat panel under $300

Okay, I know absolutely nothing about LCD monitors and am looking for one that will replace an old Sony PCV-(can't remember #) 12" viewable CRT. Brand name recomendations, website links, references to adds welcome

oh, and I play a lot of games, so that will be a problem...

i am in the uk and bought this last xmas. it is great and very good value for money. i have no dead pixels and the trailing effect is VERY minimal. i got this based on a review from THG:

There is no such thing

There would be extreme ghosting and other problems with games. Even with a 15" screen for under $300 is a pretty crap LCD panel with bad rise/fall times

I dunno, that 15" he recomended looks pretty good. Do you have a suggestion for something bigger than a 15" then?

Its a good price, but the 50ms rise/fall time is pretty bad. And if you are going to be a gamer then you want the lowest response time you can afford

From just looking at www.newegg.com I might get the:

Cornea Systems Model MP503 15" LCD Monitor - RETAIL **Comes with a 3 years Advance Cross-Ship warranty** which has a 25ms responce time $255 - Never used that manufacturer before.

or

BENQ 15" LCD FP581S LCD Monitor Retail, 16ms responce time - $290

You might also want to look more into there rise/fall times. They might only be posting one or the other

Also neweggs policy on most if not all LCD panels are are 8 or more dead pixels for a refund or exchange

Go to Walmart and get the KDS Rad 5 (not the Rad 5c); it is a really nice monitor for the money; it is great for games, and if you have any problems with it at all, Walmart has about as good of a return policy as you can get. It is only $279.

My roommate has one of these, and it really is nice. I'm thoroughly impressed with it. The only downside is that there is this sticker at the top that just doesn't come off, so don't even try otherwise you'll just have a nasty looking bezel.

www.svc.com has the HP F50 for 220. I actually just ordered one of these and my roommate has one. It has digital output also...check it out

I just bought a NEC 1560V and it is awesome. I've played all sorts of games on it and can definately say there is no ghosting. You can get one of these for right at $300. Read my review here:

The KDS Rad 5 gets good reviews from just about everyone, but this monitor is several years old and the specs aren't as good as the NEC 1560V.

Actually, the Rad 5 has better specs than the NEC 1560V. The NEC 1560V has a response time of 40ms whereas the Rad 5 has a response time of 25ms. If you are going to game, you'll want as low of a response time as possible. With the Rad 5, you won't find a better bang for your buck.

(One other note: the rad 5 does not have a DVI input, it only has analog input if that is an issue for you; it doesn't really matter though a the picture quality if fantastic.)

I know you asked for an LCD, but for 300 dollars you can get a nice 19" CRT instead of an OK 15" LCD. I would maybe get a sony E440B or G410R for ~300 dollars. They have flat screens, high refresh rates, and are great for gaming.

Yeah, I know, but I really don't have room right now in my current conditons to have that big of a CRT.
