FREELANCER Race Help

Can anyone tell me how to win the race out near the Dublin system? It is part of the scripted storyline. I've tried at least 30 times and never come close.

I currently have a Heavy Fighter (Crusader I believe). Would a lighter/faster fighter solve the problem? They do have one for sale on the Hood Battleship.

All ships go the same speed, the only real difference between ships is the turning rate. Some ships turn faster than others. Instead of getting a new ship get better thrusters. Advanced thrusters are found on New Berlin and you can thrust for a long time.

I don't know what you have to do in the race, but if you have to go into trade lanes get as close as possible before docking, this will save a lot of time. It's a good thing to do anyways for a fast getaway too. If it's a flat out drag race, that's pointless, it would basically be the first person to cruise would win.

In this race it's all about the turning, he beats you at the start, like when you first start the race. But towards the last bunch of loops, if you take the turns well you get ahead of him easily.
Also, use your cruise engines if you're not.

There is no way you can win without using cruise (shift+w) the whole way (except maybe if you used cruise disruptors, not sure if it's allowed though.) I beat him by a mile in a British light fighter. Stay on the inside. Also this is a good sitehttp://www.lancersreactor.com BTW I have a Sabre and all level 10 weapons. Don't bother with the sunslayer torpedo, it serves no purpose. Don't bother with the big sun in the unknown system that has the monkeys and robots on it. You might want to visit the monkeys and the robots though, (they don't serve any purpose). This stuff all happens after the end of the game.

Use your strafe keys (A - D) while turning they give you a tighter turning angle and dont give up even if he is winning at half way, he slows down on the last quarter

Ok guys here is the info u need to pass the race in freelancer

I tried this mission about 10 times and could not understand why : no1 my ship kept cutting out and no2 the gates were moving !!! but hey like most level's or missions in games its something easy that ye just could not see at the start , well anyway here it is -->
. no1 : DONT USE (F2) FOR CRUISE That seems to be the reason your ship acts like a monkey on ice and also why the ship cuts out half way into the race. Like someone has already sead use ( SHIFT-W) and for some reason the ship flys like a dream, Dont worry if he is ahead of you for the start of the race because he slows down near the end of race. btw dont do what i did and sell your ship in the station just to buy their light fighter so you can beat him ,,,, because u can do it in any ship as far as i can see . hope this helps
