    Desert Combat Woes

OK, so I install this new desert combat patch. They've got all these new vehicles, maps, weapons, classes, etc. So far, it all looks very cool. Then I start to actually play the game, and what do I notice? All the maps are polluted with plane campers! I thought BF1942 was bad for plane campers, but DC takes it to a whole new level. I just finished a game on Gazala, and there was literally less than 2 or 3 people actually trying to cap flags at any given time. This is on a 32 player map. I mean who can blame them really? The new vehicles are a hell of a lot of lot of fun when you can actually use them. That huge new bomber that the allies have is very cool indeed, but is it actually all that useful? So on the surface, DC appears to be very cool, but when you go to play it, it turns out to be not really that much fun for me. The great thing about BF1942 was that it had the perfect mix of vehicles, to keep the pace going, and to still concentrate on the objective of capturing flags. That's what made it so much fun. On the other hand, DC has so many toys, that it's impossible to pull yourself away from the toys and actually try and win the game. Thus the game deteriorates into big old camping trip. And of course you have the anti-campers on the other team, who are again not trying to cap flags, but kill the campers in the enemy base.

So those are my thoughts and analysis on DC 0.3.

    WARNING! Prepare to be flamed.

DC is soooo much fun to me. The weapons are great and are the best thing about it IMO.

OK, so when you play do you try to cap flags or just play with the toys?

I try to cap flags and get kills. I don't fly planes or use vehicles much.

i go for the flags while using the "toys".

i like to grav a black hawk and land it next to the flag capturing that flag. its quite fun.

Desert Combat is the best mod ever IMHO. (although they dont know what the term alhpa is, this is most certinly a beta at this stage)

I agree it's a great mod. The problems mainly stem from the users, not so much from the game itself.

You must be very skilled to be able to land a chopper! I can't do that yet. Actually I've never tried, but it seems difficult.

I want to know how you all fly a plane/chopper and concentrate on shooting at the same time.lol Unless you use joysticks.

I'm in the most ironic situation. Everyone says the apache is hardest to fly, and I myself can fly it flawlessly. Now, with the new helicopters they're supposedly easier to fly. I can't fly them worth crap, lol. The hind is so fast that I end up crashing into the ground on low ground sweeps that I do in the apache.

I dislike the F-16's and migs. They go so fast, my crappy frame rate can't keep up

Choppers are fun. They go slow so my crappy computer doesn't bog down too badly. I'm able to get around in them. I just usally miss my targets. I wish I could hover in one spot like they do on tv

    Camping OMG so bad....yeah right

but this game rules and only after many hour long sessions does it make sense to not like this game. This game has toys that are meant to be used in all kinds of fashion. The Hangar repair does not work on enemy forces anymore so even enemy tanks in your own base is just another part of simulated war. Stop whining and actually grab that RPG and blast the tank. This is a wargame, I am sick of all this camping lark.

If all flags are gone you defend them and you defend them by attacking the enemy base. The enemy just will have to try harder to get out!!!!!

That's one of my favorite tatics. That and hearding the enemy troops with air and artillary into one hot spot. The base/vehicle camping can become annoying, especially when you see idiots TKing other vehicle campers, just because they got the vehicle first. But it's still early in the mod, and they could very well address this later in the develope process.

I though that was the deal with the day 2 day 3 maps. Less planes with each map

Correct, with each day for the map, the less there is air power. A good idea IMHO.
